Carbondale made some changes between week 1 and week 2 and they inserted a new running back into their starting lineup. Enter Francisco Roman who rushed for over 150 yards and two touchdowns as the Chargers got their first win of the season with a 37-2 victory at Nanticoke. “Frank really ran hard for us. I’m proud of our offensive line. On our defense, we got some young kids in there. It’s exciting to get back on track.” Said Carbondale head coach Jeff Arthur.
The game remained scoreless until 7:38 in the first quarter when Roman scored from 16 yards out to make it 8-0. After a Nanticoke three and out, Roman got his second touchdown of the quarter, this time from four yards out to make it 14-0 Chargers with 2:08 remaining in the first quarter. After an interception by Carbondale, the Chargers drove the ball down the field to the Nanticoke four yard line as the quarter came to an end. First play of the second quarter, Nanticoke forced a Carbondale fumble and recovered it. The Trojans were unable to capitalize and their offensive possession resulted in a safety to make it 16-0 with 11:01 to go in the second quarter.
Caedon Voglino got a lateral from Cole Bechetti and ran 30 yards to make it 24-0 Carbondale with 10:17 remaining in the fourth. After a three and out by the Trojans, an errant snap on the punt was recovered by Carbondale and returned it to the 18 yard line. Bechetti found David Myers for a 19 yard score to make it 31-0 with 7:41 to go in the second quarter. Just before halftime, Mechetti found Keegan Kuna for a 22 yard score for a 37-0 Chargers lead as we got to halftime.
Carbondale cruised through the second half. Nanticoke got on the board from a safety after the Trojans were stopped on fourth down at the one yard line late in the fourth quarter and Carbondale improved to 1-1 as they defeated Nanticoke 37-2 on the road. Carbondale travels to Holy Redeemer. Nanticoke plays Pittston Area at home.
