Doylestown– Last night, the Bucks of Central Bucks West (8-2, 6-1) concluded their 2024 regular season campaign in a 35-7 victory over longtime rival and conference foe, the Central Bucks East Patriots (4-6, 2-5). Seniors Ryan Clemens, Noah Miller, and Devin McGowan provided all the firepower needed to secure the victory.  By my account, Miller carried the ball 10 times for 78 yards and one touchdown while throwing two touchdown passes to McGowan. Clemens had 16 carries for a game-high 148 yards and a touchdown. McGowan rushed twice for 47 yards and caught three passes for 47 yards and two touchdowns.  The dynamic playmaker spoke after the win on what contributed to his limited but stellar success. “All my guys just lifted me up every time something bad happened, and our leaders Noah, Finn (McGowan), and Clemens always push us to be better and coach Rowan for believing in me and giving me opportunities. The guys up front blocked, and it was a total team effort.”

The first quarter got underway, with West receiving the opening kickoff and marching down the field while shaving almost 4 minutes off the clock. The nine-play drive went 80 yards, with a heavy dose of Ryan Clemens, who ate up 35 of those yards. The drive concluded with 7:30 to go when senior quarterback Noah Miller called his number and scampered 20 yards to paydirt for the game’s first score. After the Clemens PAT, the Bucks went up 7-0.

East’s first drive also went nine plays and carried us to the 1:35 mark, but they failed to pick up any points when sophomore sensation Mike Price fumbled on the 3-yard line, and it was quickly scooped up by none other than Ryan Clemens. The Bucks leaned on a steady dose of rushes again, which concluded at the 7:00-minute mark when Clemens bulldozed his way in from 2 yards out. He converted his own PAT, and the Buck’s lead stretched to 14-0.

East would take over and again and march down the field but come up short when they attempted to go for it on fourth down, forcing a turnover on downs. The Bucks took over, and after a personal foul penalty, they were seated at the Patriot five-yard line. Two plays later, with 15 seconds to go, Vance Morelli took the handoff around the outside and scored.  The Clemens PAT extended the lead to 21-0 heading into the half.

The second half started out slow for both squads, and we saw our first punts of the game from both sides in the third quarter as both teams were forced to punt after two three-and-outs. East picked up a bit of momentum and moved the ball downfield before being forced to attempt a field goal. Unfortunately, it had the height but bounced off the left goalpost. West would take over from their 43-yard line as we headed into the fourth quarter of play.

The fourth quarter ignited the Bucks, and three plays later, with 10:38 to go in the game, McGowan caught a Miller pass and went 26 yards for the score. The Clemens PAT made it 28-0.

The Bucks would force the Patriots to turn the ball over on downs. Vance Morelli got the next Bucks drive started when he went 26 yards for the first down. Three plays later, Miller found a wide-open McGowan for a 19-yard touchdown. The Clemens PAT made it 35-0 with 7:14 left in the game. East took over and almost ran the clock down, but it concluded with a Mike Price 34-yard touchdown after the power back trucked a few defenders, but it was too little, too late, as the damage was already done.

The Bucks ran the clock out with their twos and threes and almost ended the game on a touchdown as Shane McGuire took the handoff 41 yards before being forced to step out of bounds at the 1-yard line.

What’s next: CB West is currently ranked third in the 6A playoff bracket and will host the 13th seeded Pennsbury Falcons whom the Bucks beat 27-6 in week 7. CB East’s season has come to an end

Player of the Week

* Devin combined for 94 total yards (47 receiving & 47 rushing) and two touchdowns

** Noah Miller combined for 151 yards & 3 touchdowns

*** Ryan Clemens rushed 16 times for 148 yards & a touchdown
