CB West v Pennridge TV by PAFootball Newsdotcom
Up 21-14 with three minutes left in regulation, the Bucks of CB West had their chance to ice Pennridge with a 28-yard field goal from Mason Darrows. Pennridge fans surely thought for a moment that they had a chance when the kick was blocked at the line. But the ball came back to Darrows who took off towards the end zone and picked up a first down. A score on the next play took care of business.
It’s hard to believe there was so much late drama in this one though, given the first quarter went scoreless and both teams struggled to just get a single first down in the opening frame. Sean Leuthe took the opening play of the game 32 yards for the Rams, but the drive quickly stalled near midfield. The Bucks had a similar issue when a 17-yard pickup by Nick Miletta out to midfield was called back on a holding penalty.
Josh George converted on a 4th & 1 keeper at his own 40 in the quarter, but the next set of downs saw his team only gain a yard.
Finally, Pennridge broke through in the second. A 12-play, nearly six minute drive was capped on a 4th & 3 from the 5-yard line when Ryan Rowe plunged into the end zone.
Central Bucks West responded in kind with a five minute, ten play drive that spanned 75 yards. Along the way, Miletto broke free for a 20-yard pickup and Louie Cipollo caught a 17-yard pass that put the Bucks in a Goal to go situation. The reception was nearly nullified due to yellow laundry, but the flag was waved off. Miletto took it to the end zone on the next play from eight yards out, tying the game at 7-7 with 2:20 left before halftime.
Pennridge regained the lead, as the Rams quickly zipped down the field. Noah Keating connected with Will Dougherty for a 28-yard gain and Leuthe caught a pass for 23 more yards. A potential offensive pass interference call was also waved off on the Leuthe catch. With :46 left before the intermission, Keating tossed a touchdown into the left side of the end zone, caught by Nate Derstine. At the break, Pennridge led 14-7.
The second half was pure domination by Central Bucks West. The defense held Pennridge to just one first down in the half, which didn’t come until a minute left in the contest.
The Bucks got the ball first in the third and made the most of their opening drive. It was a one-two punch of Miletto and Cipollo. George also contributed in a big spot, converting a 4th & 2 on said first drive. Miletto eventually capped the nine play drive on a 6-yard touchdown run. Midway through the third quarter, we were all knotted at 14-14.
Central Bucks West showed their strength in short yardage situations again, converting on 4th & inches and 4th & 1 on their next drive. The Bucks held the ball for over 9:30 of the third quarter, gradually wearing down a tiring Pennridge defensive front. A Cipollo gain of 29 yards set up George from a yard out, giving the Bucks their first lead of the night at 21-14.
The next drive from Pennridge was marked by a Jeff Cappa sack of Keating, backing the Rams up to their own 15. They were promptly forced to punt again as the fourth quarter opened.
Pennridge only had three penalties on the evening, but a personal foul on CB West’s next drive nearly doomed them when the ball was moved 15 yards to the Pennridge 45 after Cipollo ripped off a 29-yard pickup. This all came after Keating boomed a 63-yard punt that put the Bucks on their own 10-yard line. Fortunately for Pennridge, they forced a punt, but also had to take possession at their own 10 and quickly were forced to punt.
Taking over on the Pennridge 33, Central Bucks West quickly moved into the red zone. Eventually stalled on the 7-yard line, they attempted an all-but game winning field goal. Mason Darrows’ had his kick batted back at him. He quickly picked it up and went down the near sideline to the 5-yard line. On the very next play, Cipollo strung out the defense to the far side, running to his left and in for the game-clinching score. With 3:02 to go, CB West had a stranglehold on the game at 28-14.
As Pennridge tried to claw back against the defense and the clock, Keating found Leuthe for 49 yards, setting up the Rams on the Bucks’ 11. Four plays later on 4th & 5, Cipollo batted a pass away along the far sideline, giving the Bucks the ball and allowing them to kneel it out for the victory.
On the night, Louie Cipoollo carried 19 times for 88 yards and a TD. Miletto added 15 carries for 55 yards and two scores. Josh George was 8/10 through the air for 89 yards. Pennridge was held to 103 yards on the ground and while Noah Keating completed 13 passes for 196 yards, much of that came after the game outcome was decided.
Central Bucks West improves their record to 6-2 and heads to North Penn next week. Pennridge, now 7-1, will look to rebound at home against Central Bucks East.
