It’s that time of year again ladies and gentleman, high school football is back. As the first week of matchups all around the state stand just one day away, we’re heading over to Blue Jay Stadium in South Centre to take a look at the matchup between the Central Columbia Blue Jays and the Midd West Mustangs.

What to Know About The Game
Last season when Midd-West hosted Central Columbia, the Blue Jays routed the Mustangs 41-0. This year Central Columbia will have home field advantage, the last time this happened was back in 2021, where the Blue Jays won 21-7. This game is interesting as both sides are coming off of disappointing 2024 campaigns, Central Columbia finishing 2-8 and Midd-West finishing 1-9, however last season Midd-West finally put an end to a 27 game losing streak that dated all the way back to 2022. Central Columbia on the other hand will be looking to surpass the 3 win mark in a season, something they haven’t done since the COVID shortened 2020 season where they went 5-3. Midd-West will be entering their second season under head coach Jeff Janovich. Central Columbia on the other hand is entering their first season under newly hired head coach Ky Seesholtz.
Final Thoughts
Even though the Blue Jays have a brand new head coach this season, considering how lopsided the result of last year’s matchup between these two squads was as well as the fact that Central Columbia has won all three of their previous head to head matchups with Midd-West, it’s hard not to pick them to win again this year. However, I would not at all be surprised if this game ends up being closer than a lot of people think it will be.
