Central Valley (7) vs Archbishop Wood (12)

Check back for updates from PFN Editor Chris Kucharski for observations during the game.

9:46pm: Wood finishes the game with a sack. Archbishop Wood wins their second straight Class AAA title. The Vikings did not throw a pass in the second half and Jarrett McClenton won the battle of the great backs with four touchdowns and 225 rushing yards.

9:42pm: Arcangeli slams the door witha  7-yd TD run for Wood. First AW TD not scored by McClenton. Arcangeli with 133 yards on the night. Two rushers over 100-yards.

9:35pm: Two sacks and a penalty put the Warriors at a 4th and 45. Coach Lyons sends out the punt team and waves the white flag. Wood just has to avoid a meltdown.

9:31pm: Wood’s pressure has been amazing tonight. CV quarterback George has been roughed up all night long.

9:26pm: McClenton with his fourth TD of the night. The Villanova recruit has 225 yards rushing and now Central Valley needs a miracle with 5:35 left. Wood 26-14.

9:24pm: Wood is marching. They are in the red zone with a chance to put this game away with 6 minutes left.

9:17pm: Warriors got what  they needed. Reinstadtler beat the defender on the sideline route for 55-yard TD. It was the first offensive TD for Central Valley. We have a ballgame!

9:13pm: CV converts a big third down before the end of the third quarter. I would say that they need to score on this drive to stay in this game. End of 3rd. Wood 20-7.

9:00pm: McClenton breaks a long one and nobody touches him. 51 yards to the house. He has three TDs and is on his way to a 200-yard rushing day.

8:51pm: Both teams have had a possession in the second half, but no scores. CV with the ball at their own 15 yardline.

8:43pm: Central Valley gets the ball to start the second half.

8:19pm: For the second time today, we saw a team get greedy at the end of the first half and this time Wood pays. Brandon Wilson picks off Russo and goes the distance for the pick 6 to totally change this game. It happened in the first game where the QB throws into the flat.  If you throw deep, it’s not  a bad play, but nothing in front of Wilson but green turf.  Big mistake by the defending champs. Wood 12-7 at half.

8:09: Russo throws an INT and Whitehead is the man and than he amazes the crowd with a 30-yard highlight reel return. Warriors still have a shot at the Wood 42 with 44 seconds remaining.  Vikings’ Alex Arcangeli is now down hurt.

8:00: Whitehead drops a pass in the end zone on 4th and goal from the one and  Wood gets a big stop to keep it 12-0. Eleven play drive for nothing.

7:57pm: Warriors get a spark from Whitehead’s return. They are in the red zone for first time tonight.

7:52pm: Jordan Whitehead returns and immediately pays dividends with 58 yard run to get the Warriors out of trouble. Good to see him back.

7:45pm: After a big pass completion to B.J. Powell for Central Valley, the Warriors fumble on the next play and Devon Cobb recovers for Wood.  Everything going the Vikings way right now.

7:43: End of 1st quarter and Wood in control so far. Whitehead has not returned from his injury. Trainers were examining him on the bench. Not sure if he will return.

7:37pm: Arcangeli did most of the damage. McClenton gets the reward. Another 12-yard TD run. Another missed conversion. Vikings 12-0 late 1st quarter.

7:35pm: The Vikings are in the red zone for the second time tonight. Right now, they are winning the battle up front and the physical battle as well.

7:33pm: Archbishop Wood gets the back and FB Alex Arcangeli with a big run. More important, Pitt recruit Jordan Whitehead is hurt making the tackle for CV.

7:29pm: Both teams exchanged punts and now Central Valley trying to get some offensive rhythm.

7:15pm: It only took four plays for the Vikings to hit paydirt. Another missed conversion makes the teams today 1 for 7 so far. If Central Valley can’t stop McClenton, it will be a long night for the Warriors. AW 6-0.

7:12pm: Jarrett McClenton two carries and Wood is already in the red zone.

7:06pm: Wood has won the toss and has deferred. Warriors will get the ball first. Temperature is 37 degrees with 15 to 20 mph winds going from west to east.  Here we go!!

6:57pm: Central Valley will be the away team. They will be the away team and wearing all white. This is their first trip to the PIAA state playoffs.  Archbishop Wood is the home team and will wear all black. They are the defending PIAA Class AAA state champions and have won two PIAA state championships.
