Clippers handle Bucs 30 to 0…

Rust seemed to definitely play a part in Saturday afternoons spring football game between the Chester Clippers and Interboro Buccaneers.  The first quarter of the game saw both teams feeling each other as well as themselves out.  As both teams couldn’t muster much in the first quarter, the Bucs did stuff the Chester offense early when the Interboro defense stopped the Clippers deep in the Bucs territory on 4th down, Interboro took over at their own 6 yard line, but as like their first drive, the Bucs couldn’t get anything going and had to punt. A short punt by the Bucs allowed the Clippers to begin the drive in Bucs territory, Clippers fumbled the ball with a huge loss of yards on the play, on the next play, the Clippers fumble again, another hugs loss had Chester back in at their own 33 yard line. It wasn’t until the second quarter for someone to score, it was the Clippers when Chester RB Anton Sterling took the handoff and ran 19 yards for the score, 2 point conversion was successful as well with 10:50 left to play in the first half.

After that score by the Clippers, nothing amounted to much for the rest of the second quarter, Bucs had the ball 4th and about 17 with just 1:37 left in the first half and punted again, another short punt put the Clippers offense back on the field at the Bucs 25.  Chester goes for it on 4th down, and Interboro intercepts the pass at the 15 yard line with just seconds left to play in the first half.

The third quarter of play seemed alittle better, for Chester that is, as Interboro received the kickoff and as in the first half, couldn’t really get anything going. Chester took over after a decent punt and started to gain strength. On one play, the handoff went to the right, and after gaining the first down and out of bounds, the Bucs defense gets flagged with a personal foul, late hit, which gave the Clippers excellent field position. Chester couldn’t capitalize, and had to give the ball back to the Bucs deep in their own territory. with 8:10 left in the quarter, the Clippers defense stepped up and recorded a safety to make the score Chester – 10, Interboro – 0.  After a little back and fourth once again, Chester’s offense heated up, and once again, it was Clipper’s RB Anton Sterling taking it into the endzone for the score with just 1:25 to play in the quarter, the 2 point conversion was good(no video of that one).

To start the fourth quarter with the score 18 to 0 Chester, we saw Interboro with a 4th and 7 at their own 36 yard line and like in the previous three quarters, the Bucs couldn’t gain any momentum.  On the next possession for Chester, the Clippers QB Isaiah Freeman hooked up with William Smith for about a 30 yard touchdown, extra point no good to make the score 24 to 0 Clippers.  Like all game, on the next possession for Interboro, they couldn’t do much against the Chester defense and had to give the ball back after another failed 4th down conversion. Chester waisted no time as the Bucs defense looked tired out.  With 8:52 left to play, the Clipper’s Anton Sterling took the handoff and pounded his way up field for yet another touchdown, his 3rd of the game, making the score 30 to 0 after another failed point after. which would eventually be the final score of the game.  I wasn’t able to get an interview with any coached due to school limitations rules but, I could only imagine what each coach would’ve said about their first game of the 2020/2021 season.
