Player of the week: Andrew Weidman RB Ephrata. Andre rushed for 234 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 2 point conversations in a 29-21 over Lancaster Catholic. He also cracked over 1,000 yards on the year. He continues to be impressive for Ephrata who is 5-2 and is in a good spot to win a Lancaster-Lebanon Section 3 title.

Coach of the week: Rob Wildasin of Cedar Crest. Going into Friday night Cedar Crest was sitting 2-3 and on a 3 game losing streak. Hempfield entered the game 4-2 and on a 3 game winning streak. Most assumed Hempfield would win. Well, Cedar Crest had other ideas when they got a 20-13 win over Hempfield. Great job by Wildasin to keep his team focused and ready to play Friday night.

Team of the week: Garden Spot. Garden Spot started 0-4, but they have won their last 2 games against Pequea Valley and Lebanon. They have not allowed a point and scored 92 points. Even though they had a slow start Garden Spot will be a hard out the rest of the way in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

Play of the week: I had a great time watching Cocalico and their Flexbone offense Friday night. They have run it for years and it is such a treat to see. The offense involves the QB being the trigger man and making all the correct reads. On certain plays, you will be reading the defensive dnd, and other times you be reading a defensive tackle. Also, you have motions coming in either direction that might involve pitches as well. Cocalico ran it to perfection and racked up 46 points in a win over Conestoga Valley.

Football has 4 downs, so here are 4 thoughts from what I saw, watched, and heard this week:

1) Manheim Township is now 5-2 and has won 4 straight. They host Hempfield next week. Whoever wins that game will have a driver’s seat into winning Section 1 of Lancaster-Lebanon League, but don’t count out Wilson. Wilson will play both Township and Hempfield later in the year.

2) Manheim Central, Cocalico, and Warwick had a battle Friday night, but all 3 game up with big games in the race for Section 2 of Lancaster-Lebanon League. Cocalico plays Warwick and Manheim Central to finish the year out, those 2 games will have a huge say who wins the section.

3) Section 3 of Lancaster-Lebanon League looks like it probably between Lampeter Strasburg who routed Donegal on Friday and Ephrata who won against Catholic on Friday. They face each other on October 15th. Whoever wins that will have a leg up in the Section 3 race. In Section 4 it looks like Columbia is the favorite. As they have now improved to 5-1 on the year.

4) Now onto some of the league leaders in LL through 7 Games:

Rushing Yards- Anthony Bourassa Cocalico 1223 yards rushing, Andre Weidman Ephrata 1173 yards rushing.

Passing Yards- Robert Footman Columbia 1846 yards passing, Jack Reed Warwick 1720 yards passing.

Receptions- Cooper Eckert Warwick 48 Catches, Anthony Ivey Township 43 catches.
