Coach Weider’s @Go_Rout Coaches Notebook: Big wrap up from all the playoff games played Friday night

Team of the week– Hempfield. Hempfield went into Friday night’s game against Central Dauphin East as the 6th seed and the visiting team.  They went into Harrisburg and beat Central Dauphin East 35-2 in a dominating performance by the away team. Quite an effort by George Eager’s squad Friday night. Quarterback Cam Harbaugh lead the Hempfield squad as he normally does but the defense had another dominating performance. Next up is Harrisburg High School. Not an easy task at all.

Players of the week– I went with co-players of the week this week. Wilson’s dynamic duo of Quarterback Brad Hoffman and Running Back Jadyn Jones. Hoffman ran for 178 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jones ran for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both helped Wilson to a dominating 43-26 win over York High Friday night.

Coach of the week– I have never picked an assistant for this award, but I am going to make an exception this week. Mike Cesarano Defensive Coordinator of Central York. He had a great game plan Friday night and totally shut down the Township Offense led by Anthony Ivey.

Play of the week– Draw play. This is a great play to run on 3rd down when you are in a passing situation. It works well in a passing situation because the defensive line is thinking pass and getting off the ball to rush the Quarterback. Secondly, the back 7 is probably running a zone and will get a big drop. So if you run the draw you might catch the defense in a good spot to run the ball.

Football 101: Draw - Weekly Spiral

Football has 4 downs, so here are 4 thoughts from what I saw, watched, and heard this week:

1)Warwick had a great game Friday night. They beat Gettysburg 44-14 Friday night. An impressive win by Warwick in the 8th vs. 9th seed. Next up for Warwick is at number 1 seed Governor Mifflin.

2) Wilson kept it rolling with their 6 straight win over York High Friday night. Next up is Central York who beat Township 26-14 Friday night. Even though a matchup of Wilson who is a 5 seed vs. the 1 seed Wilson with their running game will have a good chance to get the win

3) Fun match-up I love to watch would be Kennard-Dale vs. Donegal. We will call this the “Wing-T Bowl”. Both teams run the Wing-T and both run the ball very well as you expect. Kennard-Dale comes into this game 9-1 with the best record in School History. Donegal comes into this game 7-2. Should be a fun one to check out.

4) Columbia lost a heart breaker Friday night 50-48, to Lower Dauphin. It was a tough loss, but Columbia should keep their heads up and be proud of what they accomplished. They went 8-1 in the regular season and won an outright section title for the first time in 20 years. Tip of the cap from Coach Weider. Keep your heads up and be proud of what you accomplished.
