Team of the Week– Exeter Township. Exeter went to Governor Mifflin and beat the number 1 seed in 5A. Mifflin was led all season by Nicholas Singleton the all-star running back who is going to Penn State next year. The number 7 seed Exeter sprang the huge upset over the number 1 seed. Impressive win by Exeter.

Player of the Week– Eric Nangle running back of Exeter.  40 Carries and 223 yards. Very rare can a running back outshine a player like Singleton, but Nangle did that. The Exeter game plan was to run the ball and keep it away from the explosive Singleton and Nangle was the key to the plan.

Coach of the Week– Jeff Weachter of Bishop McDevitt. Lampeter-Strasburg was the defending 4A District 3 champ and came in on a 11 game winning streak. In a slugfest of really good defenses, McDevitt beat LS 7-0 to clinch the 4A District 3 Championship.

Play of the Week-One of the most successful plays is to run a screen off of is play-action.  The reason is everyone on defense runs with the play action and leaves the running back open away from the rolling out Quarterback. This is a hugely successful play on 3rd down.

Football has 4 downs, so here are 4 thoughts from what I saw, watched, and heard this week:

1) Huge Congrats to Nicholas Singleton of Mifflin. He put on a show all year, and even though they lost he left a lasting image of football in Pennsylvania forever. I never forget watching him dominate York High in week 1. Onto bigger and better things for Singleton.

2)Lampeter-Strasburg has an amazing year. 11-2 including winning a section title, winning 11 in a row, and making it to the District 4A championship game. Kudos on an excellent season.

3) In 6A State College beat Harrisburg to avenge a loss from earlier this school year. State College and Harrisburg played a classic defense battle when State College won 16-13. State College moves on to face Mount Lebanon in the next round.

4) Finally, thanks for reading my articles this year. This is my 1st year doing this and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I hope to continue to keep doing this. If you got any questions or comments please send me an email at: patrickweider82@gmail.com
