On Friday night I saw Solanco beat Ephrata 25-17. Solanco improves to 4-0 on the year and looks like one of the favorites in the section 3 race along with Elizabethtown. Elizabethtown and Solanco play on October 7th, and I plan on covering that game as well. As for Ephrata coach Miller has done a nice job rebuilding the Ephrata program and I expect them to be fine the rest of the way.

Player of the Week– Sam Stoner and Jaheim White of York High are co-players of the week. Stoner on Friday became the all-time passing yards record holder at York in a 54-9 win over Northeastern. White became the all-time rushing yards leader as well for York High. The backfield mates both now own the all-time yardage for passing and rushing yards. A great accomplishment considering the history of York High Football.

Team of the week– Manheim Central. Manheim Central is back to dominating teams with their 4-0 start on the year. On Friday night they beat Susquehannock 49-0. Next week they will play rival Warwick who is 2-2 on the year, but will be ready to play Manheim Central. Should be a good one to check out.

Coach of the week– Mike Evans of Manheim Township. Evans squad got a tough win Friday night 17-14 against Spring Ford. Township gets the award for playing the toughest schedule so far. So far they have played Cumberland Valley, Dallastown, Harrisburg and Spring Ford. That is not an easy schedule, but they started 3-1 on the year. Next week they get rival Hempfield who beat them last year.

****** I will be covering Hempfield at Manheim Township Friday night.

Play of the week– Rocket sweep. One of the staples of Solanco’s offense is the rocket sweep. They bring their wing backs in motion and toss it to them on the edge. It is a great play because you have to respect the toss, especially since Solanco runs option and fullback dive very well.

Wing T Offense- Rocket Sweep, Sweep Football Plays

Football has 4 downs, so here  are 4 thoughts from what I saw, watched, and heard this week:

Thoughts on Lancaster-Lebanon Football sections after 4 weeks and 1 week after section play began. Next week I go over York-Adams football sections.

Section 1: Wilson, Manheim Township, and Hempfield all are 3-1 after 4 weeks. Any of those three could win the section. The favorite to me is Manheim Township who is loaded this year, but Wilson is equally as talented. Also don’t count out Hempfield. George Eager squads is still very good.

Section 2: This is a very talented section, but to me the favorites are 4-0 Manheim Central and 4-0 Exeter. Both are talented and good teams who returned a lot. Warwick can have a say in this race if they can beat Manheim Central this week. Otherwise on Friday October 28th Exeter will visit Manheim Central which could decide section 2 race.

Section 3: Three teams have a legit shot to win this section. Elizabethtown 4-0, Solanco 4-0, and 3-1 Twins Valley. Like I mention above I be in Solanco October 7th when Elizabethtown visits. Also don’t count out Twin Valley who is 3-1.

Section 4: Section 4 to me is the deepest section, but is led by Wyomissing that state power house. Wyomissing is 4-0 on the year and has out scored their 173-38 on the year. Lampeter Strasburg is 3-1 and dangerous as well on the year.

Section 5: Lancaster Catholic win on Friday night against Columbia puts them in the drivers seat in section 5 along with Hamburg who is 4-0. Circle September 30th when Lancaster Catholic hosts Hamburg.
