Conrad Weiser came into Friday night’s game with a 4-4 record, looking to move above .500, while Cocalico entered at 2-6 and hoping to turn their season around. It was a tight, back-and-forth game from start to finish, but Cocalico was able to secure a 27-17 win over Weiser.
On the first play after the opening kickoff, Conrad Weiser wasted no time setting the tone. Running back Javien Rivera caught a short pass and turned it into a 71-yard touchdown, giving the Scouts an early spark and a quick 7-0 lead to start the game.
After Rivera’s early touchdown, both teams traded turnovers on downs as defenses settled in. With just three minutes left in the first quarter, Cocalico’s offense finally found its rhythm, driving down to the 7-yard line before Logan Horning powered his way into the end zone to even the score at 7-7.
Cocalico’s defense came up with a stop, forcing Weiser to punt, but the momentum quickly shifted when Weiser’s special teams forced a fumble on the return and recovered it. Wasting no time, quarterback Connor Sellars capitalized on the turnover, breaking loose for a 22-yard touchdown run to put Weiser back on top, 14-7.
Both teams struggled to find the end zone with defenses tightening up on both sides. With seven minutes left in the half, Cocalico’s Rocco Colatta-Rigney found the end zone, tying the game at 14-14.
After Cocalico’s touchdown tied the game at 14, both teams traded punts as the defenses continued to battle. Late in the half, Weiser’s offense finally broke through when quarterback Connor Sellars connected with receiver Kaiden Leonard on a deep pass, moving the Scouts down to Cocalico’s 22-yard line. The drive eventually stalled, but Weiser capitalized with a 39-yard field goal to take a 17-14 lead heading into halftime.
Cocalico opened the second half with the ball but came up empty after missing a field goal on their opening drive. Both defenses continued to hold strong, trading punts until late in the third quarter when Cocalico’s kicker, Breck Popolis, nailed a field goal to tie the game at 17-17 heading into the fourth.
Early in the final quarter, Popolis struck again, this time giving Cocalico a 20-17 lead after another long drive. Conrad Weiser tried to respond but turned the ball over on downs, setting Cocalico up with great field position. With less than a minute remaining, Logan Horning broke free for a 58-yard rushing touchdown to seal the win for Cocalico, 27-17.
