Week #3 Heritage Conference Game of the Week
September 25, 2020
By Greg Ricupero

Purchase Line Red Dragons (0-2) @ Penns Manor Comets(2-0)
Last Meeting October 4, 2019 Purchase Line 36-14

A game of two teams going in different directions. The Comets came in looking to match last year’s win total of three. The Red Dragons came in after losing two 1 score games. I came into the game expecting a low scoring one possession game with the Comets prevailing.
The first quarter saw both teams getting three possessions and gaining very little yardage. The quarter ended with five punts, a couple of first downs, a Comet fumble and no points. The Red Dragons who received the opening kickoff played most of the quarter in their own territory.
The second quarter started with Purchase Line’s fourth punt of the game. The Comets then went on the first scoring drive of the game, 60 yards. PM drove 35 yards to the PL 25, The big play a Max Hill 17 yard pass to Dimetri Lieb. On 4th down and seven, quarterback Max Hill faked a handoff and hit Dimetri Lieb again, on a crossing pattern for the games first touchdown. The two hooked up for the two point conversion and PM led 8-0 at the 7:16 mark of the second quarter. The rest of the second quarter was like the first a series of punts and the Comets went to the locker room with the lead.
PM received the second half kickoff and a series of penalties saw them punting from their own goal line.
The Red Dragons took quick advantage. The Red Dragons scored on a 51 yard run by Josh Syster out of the wildcat formation. Syster then ran up the middle for the two point conversion to tie the game at 8-8. The rest of the third quarter saw the Comets slowly gaining field advantage. On 4th and 16 from the PL 30 Max Hill stepped up in the pocket again and hit Austin Hill on a crossing pattern for a touchdown. The drive covered 60 yards in twelve plays. The point after by Lieb made it 15-8 PM with 11:14 to go in the game.
Two plays after the kickoff, PL committed it’s only turnover of the game. The Comets made them pay as they pounded the ball repeatedly to their right side. Ashton Courvina ran in from 7 yards out and the two point conversion made it 23-8 Comets with 7:03 to go. The drive covered 28 yards in six plays. The Red Dragons would get two more positions but turned it over on downs and were forced to punt from their own end zone. The Comets were able to run out the clock and win 23-8. Purchase Line will host Saltsburg next week. The Comets will travel to Homer- Center in a battle of unbeaten teams.

PL 0-0-8- 0= 8
PM8-0-0-15=23

Game Notes- The new attendance policy allowed two tickets per player. The crowd was almost 50/50 with the exception of the band and cheerleaders. I was in the end zone most of the game and it was hard to know where you were by just the crowd noise.
