Mercer Mustangs

Mercer won their first playoff game in a decade with a 14-0 victory over Cochranton last week. The Mustangs got their revenge on the Cardinals after dropping a 16-13 contest on September 22nd. Now, Mercer will look to prevent the Sailors from turning the tables on them following the Mustangs’ 28-20 victory on October 13th. Rematch of October 13th

Ball control played a significant factor during their October 13th contest. Mercer rushed for 234 yards on 61 carries, while Rider Chiappini completed all four passes for 47 yards. The Mustangs ran 65 plays compared to only 34 for Lakeview. Daemyin Mattocks rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns while opening the scoring on a 27-yard run in the first quarter. Mattocks added a 7-yard run in their third quarter. Carter Addison added 86 yards on 20 carries and scored on runs of five and seven yards, helping Mercer build a 28-6 third-quarter lead. Lakeview fought back, with Blake Skiles catching a 10-yard touchdown from Layton Zacherl while Mitchell Tingley scored on a 6-yard run. Tingley rushed for a team-high 151 yards on 17 carries. Zacherl’s 2-yard first-quarter touchdown run gave the Sailors a 7-6 lead after a quarter.

#2 Cambridge Springs vs. #3 Eisenhower

Cambridge Springs Blue Devils

Cambridge Springs cruised to another mercy rule victory in their quarterfinal matchup with Maplewood – their eighth mercy clock performance in 11 games. The Blue Devils had problems the second time around, cruising to a 42-8 victory after beating the Tigers 41-0 on September 8th. Brett Kania rushed for 127 yards on only five carries and scored on runs of 62 and 38 yards. Morgan Applebee tossed a pair of touchdowns to Tristen Mazzadra and Preston Gorton, covering 53 and seven yards, respectively. Josh Gorton opened the scoring with a 1-yard run, while Brandon Hoover returned an interception 74 yards for a touchdown. Maplewood scored on a 15-yard touchdown run from Dorian Doubet in the fourth quarter.

Eisenhower Knights

In a rematch of last year’s district final, Eisenhower avenged Reynolds with a 34-8 victory last Saturday. Though the Raiders took an early 8-0 lead when Parker Nay caught a 42-yard touchdown from Gavin Alabran. The rest was all Knights. Tucker Lindell scored on a 15-yard run, pulling Eisenhower to within 8-7 after a quarter. Chris Bunk then caught a 15-yard touchdown from Shawn Pascuzzi, while Lindell added an electrifying 99-yard touchdown run as the Knights led 20-8 at intermission. Lindell would add a 16-yard third-quarter touchdown run, while Bunk and Pascuzzi connected again for a 53-yard score in the final stanza. Tucker Lindell rushed for a game-high 182 yards on 11 carries, scoring three touchdowns.

Rematch of September 1st

In their regular season contest, Cambridge Springs dominated the Knights in a 48-0 route back on September 1st. The Blue Devils’ defense limited the Knights to only 64 yards of offense while rushing for 348 yards and five touchdowns. Brett Kania rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Blue Devils. Preston Gorton added 79 yards and a score – Cambridge Springs’ defense scored twice when Jordan Washington returned an interception 30 yards, and Colt Proper ran a fumble back 46 yards. The Blue Devils added a safety to boot.
