District 10 Class AAA Semifinal Preview

#1 Sharon vs. #5 Oil City

November 10th – 7 pm – Slippery Rock University

Quarterfinal Recap

Sharon Tigers

Sharon posted their sixth shutout in ten games with a 28-0 victory over Fairview. C.C. Harrison scored two touchdowns with a 14-yard reception from Mister Ham and a 62-yard rushing touchdown. Meanwhile, Ham added an 11-yard touchdown run while completing 8-of-11 passes for 152 yards and rushing for a team-high 85 yards on 12 carries. Cortez Nixon added 75 yards on eight carries and opened the scoring on a 2-yard run.

Oil City Oilers

What a difference eight weeks makes. On September 8th, Oil City was blitzed by North East 35-0. On November 3rd, the Oilers reversed fortunes and beat up the Grape Pickers 51-14. There was one significant difference between those two contests, and it was running back Ethen Knox – Knox had missed the regular season game with an injury. Boy, did his presence make a difference – Knox ran over North East with 372 yards and five touchdowns. Oil City ran for only 204 yards back on September 8th. The game was close through a half, as the Oilers held a 22-14 lead at intermission. In the second half, Oil City took control, outscoring North East 29-0. Jackson Humes completed 11-of-19 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns but also intercepted three times. The Grape Pickers turned the ball over four times in total.

Keys to the Game

The Tigers need to find a way to slow down Knox, who now has over 2200 yards and 33 touchdowns. Oil City may need more than Knox as Sharon has been dominant on defense his season, only giving up 51 points in ten games, an average of only 5.1 per contest. The Oilers average 43.4 points per game when Knox is in the lineup. Oil City will need to slow down Tigers quarterback Mister Ham, who has 1826 yards of offense and sixteen total touchdowns. Cortez Nixon now has over 600 rushing yards and five touchdowns, while C.C. Harrison has added 406 yards receiving and seven touchdowns.
