Cambridge Springs Blue Devils

 

 

 

2024 Schedule

2023 Season – 12-2

Head Coach – Nate Liberty

Key Players Lost – Preston Gorton, Josh Gorton, Tristen Mazzadra, Damarious Olson

Key Players Returning – Brett Kania, Noah Moyer, Colt Proper, Zeek Carson, Morgan Applebee

What to Expect – After winning their first District X title since 1996 a season ago – Cambridge Springs will be in the hunt for another district crown in 2024. Despite losing the Gorton twins of Preston and Josh, who combined to rush for 1349 yards and 20 touchdowns – the Blue Devils still bring back plenty of firepower. Leading rusher Brett Kania and quarterback Morgan Applebee will again lead the offensive attack. Applebee threw for nearly 1000 yards while Kania rushed for 1310 yards and scored 19 touchdowns. Cambridge Springs returns three offensive linemen, including Colt Proper and Noah Moyer, who earned second-team Region 1 honors as juniors. Along with the Gorton twins, the Blue Devils will have to replace Tristen Mazzadra, who had 81 tackles and 14 sacks.

Cochranton Cardinals

2023 Season – 5-4

Head Coach – John Svirbly

Key Players Lost – Blake Foulk, Noah Cummings, Isaiah Long, Nathan Heim, Blaine Lee, Dawson Carroll

Key Players Returning – Gabe Carter, Walker Carroll

What to Expect – Under first-year head coach John Svirbly, Cochranton will look to improve on their 5-4 record from a year ago. In order to do so, the Cardinals will have to replace their entire offensive backfield from a year ago. Blake Foulk, Noah Cummings, and Isaiah Long were all lost to graduation. Cochranton brings back quarterback Walker Carroll to lead the offense. Blake Foulk and Noah Cummings were a first-team Region 1 defensive back and linebacker, respectively, last season. Cummings also earned second-team running back.

Greenville Trojans

2023 Season – 1-9

Head Coach – Michael Menold

Key Players Lost – Jack Strausser, Malachi Hyde, Bennett Hayne

Key Players Returning – Nick Solderich, Rudy Gentile, Justin Schell

What to Expect – After going 3-17 in the highly competitive Region 3 the last two seasons, Greenville will enter Region 1  this season looking to improve on their 1-9 campaign in 2023. The Trojans return quarterback Nick Solderich who passed for 756 yards and four touchdowns as a junior while adding six rushing scores. Leading rusher Rudy Gentile also returns after his sophomore season saw him rush for 626 yards and four touchdowns. The Trojans will miss Jack Strausser, who led the team with 229 yards receiving yards and 83 tackles. Strausser earned first-team Region 3 tight end and linebacker.

Head Coach – Blake Reddick

Key Players Lost – Mitchell Tingley, Luke Klonowski, Danick Hinkson, Garrett Mentch, Aiden Osborne, Kyle Devinney, Clarence Barber

Key Players Returning – Garet Guthrie, Blake Skiles, Brayden Booher, William Guy, Leyton Zacherl

What to Expect – Lakeview will look to build off their best season since first-year head coach Blake Reddick led the Sailors to the 2013 District X Title as an all-state tailback. The Sailors will need to replace seven first-team Region 1 all-region players from last season, including region player of the year Mitchell Tingley, who rushed for 1596  23 touchdowns in ten games. The Sailors return starting quarterback Leyton Zacherl who passed for 1094 yards and 13 touchdowns, Blake Skiles also returns at wide receiver who caught 453 yards. Both Skiles and Zacherl were first-team Region 1 players a season ago. Garet Guthrie returns on the offensive line after earning first-team Region 1.

Maplewood Tigers

2023 Season – 3-8

Head Coach – Jason Wargo

Key Players Lost – Dominick Kinney, Dorian Doubet, Elliot Beuchat, Mason Davis

Key Players Returning – Andrew Proper, Kyle Jordan

What to Expect – Maplewood is coming off a 3-8 season in 2023 with a loss to eventual District 10 champion Cambridge Springs in the postseason. The Tigers bring back starting quarterback Kyle Jordan, who accounted for 1263 yards and 15 total touchdowns as a freshman. However, Maplewood will need to replace his two top targets, Dominick Kinney and Dorian Doubet, who had 362 and 459 receiving yards, respectively. Doubet was a second-team Region 1 wide receiver. Andrew Proper who led the Tigers in rushing 425 yards will return with Jordan to lead the offense. Top defender Elliot Beuchat was also lost to graduation after recording 154 tackles as a senior.

2023 Season – 3-7

Head Coach – James Wolfgang

Key Players Lost – Porter Brooks

Key Players Returning – Reese Wilkinson, Wyatt Burchill, Nick Roseberry, Aaron Shartle, Cru Scott, Logan Corner, Luke Young,

What to Expect: Saegertown will return most of the core from last season and will almost certainly improve on its 3-7 record. The Panthers, Reese Wilkinson, and Luke Young, who both saw time at quarterback last season, will return to the offense after throwing for 495 yards a season ago. Aaron Shartle led the Panthers in rushing (578 yards) and receiving (235 yards) while scoring eight times. Saegertown will need to place first-team Region 1 lineman Porter Brooks.
