Grove City Eagles
2023 Season – 7-4
Head Coach – Sam Mowrey
Key Players Lost – Gavin Lutz, Hunter Hohman, Marcello Trezona, Joey Hathaway, Bode Stevenson
Key Players Returning – Nathan Greer, Clayton Martin, Lucas McCreadie, Delathian Boanes, Jack Wolfe
What to Expect – Grove City enters 2024 after advancing to the District 10 semifinals last season. To do so again, the Eagles will need to replace the 3213 yards of offense and 36 total touchdowns Hunter Hohman gave them a season ago. Hohman was also named second-team all-state linebacker. The Eagles will also need to replace Gavin Lutz, the all-time leading receiver in Eagles history; Lutz caught 65 balls for 716 yards and three touchdowns while earning first-team Region 3 defensive back honors in 2023. Returning for the Eagles are all-region players Delathian Boanes, who earned first-team Region 3 honors on both the offensive and defensive lines. Nathan Greer led the Eagles with 867 receiving yards and was first-team all-state as a kickoff and punter returner.
Hickory Hornets
2023 Season – 11-3
Head Coach – Bill Dungee
Key Players Lost – Parker Hilliard, Sean Kennedy, Timmy Krivosh, Tylon Cousins, Will Acrie, Keenan Scullin, Luke Nevil, Lucas Jones
Key Players Returning – Kelvin Morrison, Spencer Lee, Jaden Phillips, Luke Lewis, Adam Meyers, Zander Telesz, Ben Walls,
What to Expect – With good reason, the defending District 10 3A champions enter 2024 ranked 5th in the PFN 3A rankings. The Hornets return their offensive line from 2023, including Luke Lewis, who earned first-team all-state in 3A as a sophomore last season. Starting quarterback Zander Telesz and top running back Kelvin Morrison also return; Telesz accounted for 2131 yards of offense and 28 total touchdowns as a junior, while Morrison rushed for 812 yards and nine scores. The Hornets must replace first-team all-state cornerback Tylon Cousins and first-team Region 3 linebacker Sean Kennedy; Kennedy added 640 yards rushing and eight scores.
Sharon Tigers
2023 Season – 9-3
Head Coach – Jason McElhaney
Key Players Lost – C.C. Harrison, Cortez Nixon, Mister Ham, Dre Norris, Sylus Puga, Labron Wilder, Lamont Austin
Key Players Returning – Bryson Roberson, Brodie Miller, Ike Friday, Shawn Bulick, Bishop Root, Brock Ondo
What to Expect – Sharon will look to make another run at the district title after a 9-3 runner-up campaign in 2023. The Tigers return two defenders with 100+ tackles in second-team all-state defensive end Brodie Miller and first-team Region 3 linebacker Bryson Roberson. Sharon must replace quarterback Mister Ham and leading rusher Cortez Nixon. Ham and Nixon combined to rush for 1388 yards and 15 touchdowns. Ike Friday and Bishop Root will return to the offense after Friday rushed for 254 yards, and Root caught 21 passes for 354 yards. Ike Friday was also a first-team defensive end in 2023. Brock Ondo, who transferred from Kennedy Catholic, will join the Tigers in 2024. Ondo was a Region 1 second-team receiver in 2023. Sharon enters 2023 as an honorable mention in the PFN Rankings.
Slippery Rock Rockets
2023 Season – 1-8
Head Coach – Larry Wendereusz
Key Players Lost – Blaise Mullen, Sam Schwartz, Eli Anderson,
Key Players Returning – Owen Long, Cooper Glass, Aiden Corace, Doug Popovec
What to Expect – Slippery Rock will look to improve on their 1-8 season from 2023. The Rockets will need to replace three All-Region 3 players from a season ago, in quarterback Eli Anderson, lineman Blaise Mullen, and defensive back Sam Schwartz. Anderson led the Rockets offense a season ago, with 1473 yards and nine total touchdowns. Owen Long and Cooper Glass returned to offense after Long rushed for 201 yards and three scores – Glass caught 20 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown.
Titusville Rockets
2023 Season – 6-4
Head Coach – Mike Reynolds
Key Players Lost – Kaleb Brunst, Nate Sterns, Mason Titus, Landon Wolfkiel, Gavin Donaldson
Key Players Returning – Ian McDonald, Kameron Mong, Jaxon Covell, J.J. Miller, Cameron Kerr, Burke Hancock
What to Expect – Titusville enters 2024 poised to return to the postseason for the first time since 2016. The Rockets return a solid core with quarterback Ian McDonald and tailback Jaxon Covell leading the offense. Covell rushed for 1353 yards and 16 touchdowns, while McDonald accounted for 1366 yards and 20 total touchdowns. Covell also led the Rockets with 541 receiving yards, while Kameron Mong accounted for 733 yards of offense (472 rushing, 261 receiving) and seven touchdowns. J.J. Miller returns on defense after a team-high 91 tackles. Covell and McDonald both earned first-team Region 4 honors as juniors. Titusville must replace Kaleb Brunst, the first-team offensive and defensive lineman.
