| September 12, 2025

We are officially 3 weeks into the 2025 season and the pretenders, contenders and not so good teams are showing their form by now. In the Pub it’s all Imhotep but Lincoln has caught stride and showing they are hungry to knock the champion off. There are 3 undefeated teams left in the Public League (Belmont Charter, John Bartram & Thomas Edison). In the Inter-Ac only Episcopal Academy remains unbeaten with a 2-0 record. In the Catholic League Red Division Bonner, O’Hara & La Salle are all undefeated on the young season. Let’s get into the new rankings for the city along with my picks for best games of the week. Bonner Sr. RB Saalem Frink in last week’s non-league win over Archbishop Wood rushed for 5 touchdowns.

City Top 10:

  1. La Salle
  2. Roman Catholic
  3. St. Joes Prep
  4. Bonner-Prendie
  5. Imhotep
  6. Malvern Prep
  7. Cardinal O’Hara
  8. Lincoln
  9. Lansdale Catholic
  10. Springside Chestnut Hill Academy

Honorable Mention

  1. Belmont Charter
  2. John Bartram
  3. Haverford School
  4. Archbishop Ryan
  5. West Catholic

Best Games of the Week:

DeMatha @ Roman: DeMatha finishes off their Philly tour with a trip to Widener Friday evening to play Roman. Last week DeMatha sprung past Imhotep 30-14 in a game in which they struggled in the first quarter but scored 23 in the 3rd quarter to take a 30-0 lead into the final quarter. Roman played another quality opponent in Springside Chestnut Hill Academy and the defense led them to victory. In the 4th quarter with Roman leading 14-6 So. DB Sabir Dawson stepped in front of a pass and intercepted it returning it 71 yards for the game clinching score. They’ll need more big defensive plays like that to upset DeMatha.

Malvern Prep @ Imhotep: Malvern returned to the winning column last week with a shutout win over Delbarton (NJ). QB Jackson Melconian threw for 177 yards & 2 touchdowns while also rushing for a score in the win. WR Jack Schuster (5-79-1 TD) and WR Cade Cooper (4-73-1 TD) led the offense. Imhotep in their loss to nationally ranked DeMatha showed grit fighting to put up 14 points in the final quarter.

Abraham Lincoln v Springside Chestnut Hill Academy: Lincoln on the road took care of business defeating Conwell Egan last week continuing to grow together improving to 2-1 on the season. They’ll finish their non-league portion of their schedule with Inter-Ac member SCHA who fell in a tightly contested game to Roman last week. Lincoln is a pass heavy offense with Sr. QB Kareem Moore Jr. leading the team in passing while also serving as a dual threat QB as he’s quite elusive when rolling out of the pocket. Springside Chestnut Hill Academy has a strong signal caller of their own in Sr. QB Liam Zelman (Holy Cross) along with a dynamic two-way WR/DB in Sr. Aaron Clark (Buffalo).
