Games of the Week:
John Bartram @ Belmont Charter: The Braves sitting at 5-1 are looking to wrap up the division title with a win on the road against an undefeated Belmont Charter squad. Bartram is led by Sr. QB Amare Gadson who is a dual threat signal caller. Bartram averages 20 points per game and has a stingy defense that’s only allowing 6 points per game. Belmont is one of three undefeated teams left in the city. They enter with an offense averaging 22 points per game while the defense is stout giving up only 9 points per game. Expect a low scoring, physical game with the outcome probably not being determined until late in the 4th quarter.
Bonner Prendie @ La Salle College: Bonner is sitting at 5-1 and 2-0 within the PCL Red Division. Jr. QB Noel Campbell leads the team offensively passing for over 1000 yards and 11 touchdown passes. Sr. WR/DB Ty Morris is the leading receiver with 30 receptions, 407 yards & 3 touchdowns. Sr. RB Saalem Frink (Monmouth commit) leads the team in rushing with 536 yards & 11 touchdowns. Defensively Sr. DL Terrence Jones (20 tackles) leads the front line while Sr. LB CJ Amobi (UMass commit) has 16 tackles, 1 interception for a TD and 3.5 sacks. La Salle is fresh off it’s big win over SJ Prep in large part to their offensive stars. Sr. QB Gavin Sidwar (Missouri) threw for 325 yards & 4 touchdowns in the huge win. Sr. WR/DB Joey O’Brien (Notre Dame) had a huge game hauling in 8 passes for 142 yards & 2 touchdowns. On the season Gavin has thrown for 1595 yards and 18 touchdowns. Joey has 640 receiving yards & 10 touchdowns. Defensively they’re led by Sr. LB Cooper Heilig (42 tackles & 2 sacks), Jr. LB Zykee Scott (34 tackles, 1 forced fumble & 1 fumble recovery) and Sr. DL Jemel Williams (Albany) who has 29 tackles. La Salle’s schedule has been quite challenging and should help them pull away from Bonner.
St. Joseph’s Prep @ Roman Catholic: SJ Prep is coming off a loss to La Salle in which they were dominated in the trenches. Jr. QB Charlie Foulke threw for 306 yards & 3 touchdowns for the Hawks. Sophomore WR Jett Harrison had an impactful game hauling in over 100 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns to increase his season total to 12 touchdown passes. Defensively Sr. DL Alex Haskell (Penn State) has been the leader and spearheads the unit upfront while Jr. LB
Roman led by Sr. QB Semaj Beals (Akron) 1451 yards & 18 touchdown passes, Sr. WR Eyan Stead (341 yards & 4 touchdowns), Sr. WR Ashdan Roberts (6 touchdowns) and WR Eisa Nealy (262 yards & 4 touchdowns. Defensively the Cahillites are led by So. DB Sabir Dawson who has 28 tackles, 2 interceptions including 1 returned for a touchdown, a fumble recovered for a touchdown, 2 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. Eyan also doubles as a stud DB having posted 22 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery and 1 forced, 1 sack and 9 passes defended.
Roman will come into this game looking to stay on track to win their first CL Red Division title. The keys to the game for Roman will be controlling the line of scrimmage. In their tilt with La Salle they were able to protect Semaj, allowing him time to find open receivers in the passing game. They’ll need to do the same to beat SJ Prep. The key for Prep will be limiting turnovers and sustaining drives. Their defensive line needs to put pressure on Semaj to have a chance at getting back in the win column.
Thomas Edison @ Audenreid Charter: Edison is undefeated at 7-0 extending their school record for best start to a season. Their offense is led by Sr. RB/Athlete Amir Ponder who leads the public league in rushing yards with 1207 yards & 16 touchdowns. He’s also thrown for 196 yards & 2 touchdowns. Amir also starts on defense registering 2 interceptions, 5 passes defended, 1 sack, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 blocked punts. Sr. DE CJ Price leads the team in sacks with 6 while Sr. DE Sajae Smith is right behind him with 5.5 sacks. Audenreid in their first year of varsity football has shined with a 5-2 record. They currently are on a 5-game winning streak and are undefeated against Public League opponents. Jr. QB Marcus Velez leads the offense and has thrown for over 500 yards & 10+ touchdowns this season. Junior WR Syncere Bryant is his favorite target as he’s hauled in over 300 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns thus far this season. The Rockets, defensively outside of their games against Cardinal O’Hara and Chichester have not surrendered more than 8 points to any opponent. Offensively against Public League competition they are averaging 37.8 points per game while only surrendering 4.4 points per game.
Malvern Prep @ Germantown Academy: The Friars begin Inter-Ac play as the favorites with their lone loss coming to La Salle College. Led by Sr. QB Jackson Lelconian (889 yards & 8 touchdowns), Sr. RB Zeke Bates (499 yards & 7 touchdowns) and Jr. Athlete Cade Cooper (299 yards & 3 touchdowns) are high scoring and highly talented. Defensively they’re led by Sr. DL Jackson Ford (Penn State commit) and a ball hawking secondary that has returned 4 interceptions for touchdowns so far this season. Jr. LB Will Simmons leads the team in tackles (46) and tackles for loss (7). Germantown Academy is led by Sr. QB Xavier Stearn (Rutgers commit) who has turned the Patriots over the last 2 seasons into contenders in the Inter-Ac. His leading receiver is Sr. Michael McKee who leads the Inter-Ac in receiving touchdowns. Defensively Junior DE Matthew Hadlock leads the team in sacks with 5 as well as tackle for loss with 9. Sophomore DL Maurice Gooseby also has 5 sacks, 9 tackles for loss and 2 passes defensed.
