Let’s take a look at the playoff picture in District 4–who the participants will be, where they could play, and who will be on the outside looking in as we enter the final week of the regular season.
Class A
– Due to the opt-outs in single-A, this one is already decided no matter what. Line Mountain is going to face the winner of #2 Montgomery/#3 Muncy
Class AA
– On paper, the 2A bracket looks simple enough, but a single upset could throw things all out of sorts. For example, if Shikellamy found a way to beat Southern Columbia, the Tigers would likely lose the top seed to Warrior Run. That said, Southern is heavily favored and should be your #1 seed.
– If Warrior Run and Troy both win, Warrior Run will out point Troy for the #2 slot. Troy would need a win and Warrior Run loss to Milton to take the #2
– Troy is likely the #3, again, barring a MAJOR upset by Canton.
– Bloomsburg is the #4, unless Central Columbia were to pull off the improbable, in which case Loyalsock moves up
– Loyalsock can not finish lower than the #5, where they currently sit.
– If Wellsboro and South Williamsport both win, Wellsboro is the #6 and SW the #7.
– It’s a win-and-in scenario for Cowanesque or Mansfield, unless Cowanesque is the one that pulls off the unlikely upset. If they did, Cowanesque could rise as high as the #6.
– If Mansfield and Cowanesque lose and Hughesville wins, it will come down to opponents’ results between Cowanesque and Hughesville, with most scenarios favoring Cowanesque
– The bottom line for thi bracket is don’t expect much movement, but movement is still possible if there is a major upset.
Class AAA
– Mifflinburg has clinched the top seed
– Montoursville has clinched the #2 seed
– Mount Carmel has clinched the #3 seed
– Danville controls its own destiny–with a win over Selinsgrove, they are the #4 seed no matter what, even if Lewisburg topples Mifflinburg. Lewisburg’s only path to the playoffs is to win and get losses from Danville and Milton. Milton’s only path is a win and a Danville and Lewisburg loss.
Class AAAA
– Shamokin has clinched the top seed and will face Shikellamy.
– Jersey Shore and Athens will eache be favored in week 10, and the margin between them will remain razor-thin, totally depending on other opponents’ results. Athens may have the slightest of edges.
