District 9 Review – Week 8

| October 24, 2023

The games of the week:  Central-Martinsburg remained undefeated when they beat Clearfield 27-21 in a battle that came down to the last seconds.  Just like they did against Richland the week before, the Bison battled back from a deficit.  They tied the game in the 4th only to have Central go up by six late.  Clearfield drove to the Scarlet Dragon 10 with only seconds to left.  However, they could not score and lost a heartbreaker.

The other GOTW was the Punxsutawney-Brookville Route 36 Trophy Game in which the Brookville Blue Raiders downed the Punxsy Chucks 14-7 in a terrific defensive struggle.

Here are the top performers of the week, along with a couple other tidbits:

Quarterbacks:

  • Braylon Wagner, Redbank Valley, pitched the pigskin for 310 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also ran for another TD.
  • Jase Ferguson, Central Clarion, threw 4 TD passes and ran for 3 more.

  • Will Domico, Clearfield, accounted for all 3 of the Bison TDs by passing for 2 and running for the other.

  • Eleven D-9 teams have a .500 record or better. The two still undefeated, Redbank Valley and Central Clarion, face off this Friday in New Bethlehem.
  • Braylon Wagner of Redbank set two new school single season passing records against Brockway. He now has 38 TD tosses for the year and 2,374 passing yards.  He plans add to those records before the year is done.
  • Jase Ferguson, the Central Clarion signal caller, set a single season touchdown record as well. He’s thrown 37 TD passes and that is more TDs than any quarterback from Clarion or Clarion-Limestone ever threw.
  • Central Clarion still leads all of Pennsylvania in scoring. They average 61.5 points a game and have scored 70 points or better in 4 of their 9 contests.
  • Redbank Valley remains 3rd in PA in scoring offense, averaging 53.7 points per game.
