PITTSBURGH, PA – The rain delay wasn’t enough to cool down the Dukes on Saturday afternoon.

Duquesne was coming off an upset win over previously ranked no. 20 Youngstown State on the road last week. This marked the second time Duquesne has won over a ranked FCS opponent in program history. Prior to that, the Dukes had fallen in their first two games against Toledo and Boston College by a combined score of 105-10. The visiting West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats were 0-2 heading into Saturday’s contest, following losses to Post University (21-14), and Wheeling University (14-52).

Duquesne quarterback Jordan Heisey was on point, going 17-for-23 with 161-yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Jermaine Johnson reeled in two receptions on the day, both for touchdowns. John Erdy led the Dukes in receiving yards with 91, while Shawn Soloman Jr lead the rushing attack with 89 yards and 1 touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, Antonio Epps had 5 total tackles, 4 of which being solo. Luke Miller and CJ Barnes both had interceptions, with Barnes also recording a forced fumble. Duquesne outgained Wesleyan 426 yards to 155.

Wesleyan’s offense struggled to find any momentum throughout the game. Quarterbacks Quinton Pulley and Nathan Payne combined for 144 yards, 0 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Payne also lead the Bobcats in rushing yards with 8. Wesley Sweeney and Deion King were the only Bobcats receivers with over 20 receiving yards. Julius Allen and Riley Slaughter both had 6 total tackles, with Jaden Swiger recording a sack. Camden Lawrence had 8 punts for 258 yards.

Duquesne will have next week off before starting conference play when they return to Rooney Field against Long Island University on October 5th. Wesleyan will also begin conference play when they hit the road again to face West Virginia State next Saturday.
