Eastern Takes Top Spot in the MAC With Win Over Misericordia 28-21 (Video Highlights)

The Eastern Eagles get the road win at Misericordia 28-21. The Eagles are now first in the MAC freedom conference standings, and snapped a 5 game win streak for the Cougars. Misericordia received the opening kickoff, after a three and out, the Eagles drove down the field and scored first as Jeremiah Avrilien found the end zone with 4:44 left in the 1st quarter. The Cougars responded right back as quarterback Jacob Hunter ran one in from 6 yards out to tie the game at 7 after one quarter of play. After an almost scoreless 2nd quarter, Brett Nabb found Izayah Guy-Bruton for a wonderful 31 yard touchdown catch with 46 seconds till halftime to give the Eagles the 14-7 advantage. Coming out of the half Eastern took a 21-7 lead after Nabb ran in a 1 yard touchdown. Hunter would score again for Misericordia on a 10 yard keeper to make it 21-14. The Eagles pulled of a trick play as Nabb hit Curtis Johnson for a screen pass, then Johnson aired it out to a wide open Guy-Burton for his second touchdown of the day. Kasiah Poole scored on a 1 yard touchdown run to make it a 28-21 game with 6:06 left in regulation. Misericordia got a stop on the following Eastern drive, then came in the Eagles defense. With just under 2 minutes to go, Jason Bateman popped the ball out of Hunter’s hands and Salif Nikiema fell on it to give the Eagles the ball back. Nabb ran for the first down then took the knee as time expired. Eastern moves to 6-1 on the season and will travel to Widener next Saturday. Misericordia falls to 5-2 and will travel to FDU-Florham for their next contest
