First half was offensive explosion, followed by a solid defensive effort spurs the Rovers to their first District title in 15 years.

BETHLEHEM- What looked like should have been a classic contest between two undefeated premier programs in the Lehigh Valley, wound up being a one-sided affair as the Easton Red Rovers steamrolled past the Parkland Trojans Friday night by the score of 42-17. With the win Easton captures their first District championship since 2010 before packed house at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium Friday night.

The Rovers, on offense, were sparked by quarterback Cole Ordway and running back Trevon Tyler and a stout defensive effort that controlled the line of scrimmage all game, shutting out the potent Trojans offense in the second half.

Parkland took the opening kickoff and drove into Rovers territory, but a couple negative plays and some penalties stalled the momentum and they were forced to give ball to to Easton. Cole Ordway got scoring barrage started, when he sprinted in from 28 yards out with 4:00 left in the opening quarter making it a 7-0 game.

Following a 30 yard field goal by Andrea Giroudon for Parkland, that made the score 7-3. Tyler ripped off a 63 yard jaunt, up the middle for Easton making it a 10-3 ball game with 6:32 left in the half. Tyler rushed for 103 yards on just six touches on the night. Easton out-gained Parkland on the ground 288 to 107.

The turning point of the game came after Liam Spang powered in for the Trojans from a yard out with about three minutes left before halftime making it a 14-10 score, on the ensuing kickoff Tyler received it at his own ten and promptly returned it 90 yards to the end zone giving Easton a 21-10 lead.

Quarterback Finn Coen of Parkland would hook up with Jason Brader for a 25 yard score cutting the deficit to 21-17 with just under a minute before halftime. Coen threw for 173 yards on the night completing 15 of 24 passes and the one touchdown.

Seemed that every time Parkland would try to keep it close on the scoreboard, Easton had answer as in just two plays the Rovers scored again on a 45 yard touchdown pass from Ordway to Skyler Fowlin. Ordway was a perfect five-for-five passing for 92 yards and one touchdown pass.

The teams entered the locker rooms with Easton holding a 28-17 lead

Easton ended the competitive part of contest on their opening drive of the second half as Ordway capped off a 57 yard 11 play drive, all on the ground as he took it in from eight yards out, diving just inside the pylon, increasing the lead to 35-17 with 7:13 left in the third quarter.

Chris Martinez, of Easton, closed out the scoring as he took it in from eight yards out making the final score 42-17 as neither team could put up anymore points in the final quarter.

When asked, what team he would like to see next week, Easton’s coach Matt Senneca stated, “Doesn’t matter who we play, just put the ball down, line ’em up and get after it!”

The 13-0 Rovers will face the winner of the La Salle College (9-1) vs Imhotep Charter (8-4) game which will be played Saturday in Philadelphia.
