PHILADELPHIA – After scoring just six points in the first half and trailing by eight, the Executive Education Raptors came out in the second half and outscored the School of the Future Firebirds 36-18, en route to an impressive 42-32 upset victory.

School of the Future opened up the scoring first, as well as coming up with a big stop on fourth down inside their own 10 yard line, holding the Raptors off the scoreboard as the first quarter came to an end.

Executive Education’s offense finally found an answer in the second quarter, with a three yard carry by Yaseen Mirza, his first of four touchdowns on the night. A few minutes later, the Raptors seemed like they were in prime position to take the lead, lining up for a 3rd and goal from the 4 yard line. However Sameer Aside had other ideas, as he ripped the ball out of quarterback Shawntez Whitsitt’s hands and returned it all 97 yards to the end zone.

With Firebirds ahead by 8 at halftime and the Raptors’ offense seemingly out of sorts, School of the Future seemed to be in good shape. However once that Raptors team came out for the second half, it was clear that head coach Kyle Haas said all the right things during the break.

The Raptors began the second half by tying the score up at 14 on a one yard carry by Charles Ellington, and then taking their first lead of the game on a screen pass touchdown followed by Mirza running it in for the two point conversion.

After taking a 22-14 lead in the third quarter, the Raptors did not trail again the rest of the way, however the Firebirds refused to go down without a fight, as they struck back only a minute later on a one yard carry from Sameer Aside, bringing the Firebirds back within two. The Raptors didn’t waste any time finding another answer for themselves, as Yaseen Mirza found the end zone for a second time on a 48 yard touchdown carry, putting them back ahead by 8 as we headed to the fourth quarter.

School of the Future couldn’t get out of their own way in the fourth quarter, committing numerous penalties as well as costly turnovers. One of those turnovers came on a snap over the head of quarterback Avyonn Northington, which set up a third touchdown run by Yaseen Mirza. After that score, the Firebirds offense seemed to come to life, answering with a 58 yard strike to Jameer Brown to cut the deficit back down to eight. The problem was that on defense the Firebirds just could not stop Yaseen Mirsza, who on the following drive found the end zone for a fourth time. School of the Future was able to answer again on another deep ball to Jameer Brown, unfortunately it was just too little to late, allowing the Raptors to hang on for the victory 42-32.
