REIFFTON- Sophomore quarterback Riley Martinez, sparked the Exeter Eagles offense Friday night in their 58th meeting of the Pig Iron Bowl with their non-league rivals Daniel Boone Friday night at a packed Don Thomas Stadium to the tune of a 42-7 convincing win making it eleven straight wins in then series.

The Eagles dominated play from the outset, but could not translate that into points early on as Jayden Zandier opened the game with a 64 yard kickoff return to set the Eagles up in business at the Blazers 40 yard line. The drive would stall at the Blazers 22 after getting as deep as the six, a bad snap and a couple of penalties stalled the drive and a 4th down pass play came up short of the sticks.

Martinez, who did not start the contest, entered the game on the Eagles second possession and quickly established himself by tossing a 31 yard pass to Zandier, a junior for the first score of the game. The 2 point conversion was good and the home team had a 8-0 lead with ten minutes left in the half.

Exeter would extend the lead to 15-0, when Martinez flipped a shovel pass to Carter Redding and he found a gap in the center of the Daniel Boone defense and ripped off a 40 yard score with just under three minutes left in the half.

The Eagles defense stepped up and forced a turnover on the next Blazers drive rght before half and Zaymar Paschall cashed in for another score right before half making it 21-0 as the teams hit the locker room.

Martinez had a productive night a she completed six of nine passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the football 4 times for 18 yards and another score.

Big plays were the story all night for the Eagles as in the third quarter Pharrell Caceres would get in on the scoring spree as he took it to the house from 40 yards out with 4:30 left in the third quarter making it 29-0. Caceres ran for 118 yards on 10 touches and the one score. Paschell added 89 yards for the victors on just 6 carries.

Daniel Boone avoided being shut out on a 17 yard pass from Dean Rotter to Ethan Kryman in the fourth quarter after the ball was deflected by a defensive back of Exeter. Rotter completed 10 of 20 passes for 112 yards and gained 50 more yards running the ball on nine carries. Kryman was the leading receiver for his team with 40 yards on 5 receptions.

The Eagles closed out the scoring when Zumar Boston dashed in from eight yards out to make it 42-7. Coastal Carolina commit Zach Zandier was the focus of the Blazers defense as they double-teamed him all night long and only allowed him 4 catches all night, but that allowed the other Eagle weapons to step up and have a fantastic game.

Coach Matt Baur of Exter had tgis to say after his team’s win last night.

Exeter (1-0) will be on the road next week at Boyertown while the Blazers(0-1) will try to even their record as they will be at home against Conestoga Valley
