Farrell – Farrell held Sharon to negative four yards of total offense and cruised to a 30-7 victory in the Steel Bowl.

It’s not every day that you see one team hold another to negative yardage, but that’s precisely what the Farrell Steelers did Saturday night at Anthony J. Paulekas Stadium.

“We prepared for this,” said Farrell head coach Anthony Pegues. “We haven’t played a lot of football. We had a game canceled and another shortened due to the issues with the lights last week. We knew we were facing a good Sharon team, and we were confident that we would be a dominant team and come out here and put on a good performance.”

The Steelers suffocated Sharon all night long as the Tigers could get nothing going, especially on the ground, where they rushed for negative 31 yards, including minus 60 in the first half.

“When you have a defense coordinator like Omar Stewart, who puts so much work in, I can tell you right now. Omar walks into the office, and he’s already posting stuff right now,” Anthony Pegues said. “He’s doing a lot of different things, and he’s so good at what he does. His passion for the kids is infectious, and they listen. They just lined up correctly, they tackle properly, and that’s what you get, a dominant defensive effort.”

Farrell got their offense going on their second possession when Juelz Johnson broke a 43-yard gain, leading to his 1-yard run that opened the scoring following a 6-play 60-yard drive.

On the first snap of the second quarter, Farrell increased their lead to 14-0 when Johnson scored on a 1-yard run on 4th down.

Juelz Johnson led the Steelers, rushing for a game-high 171 yards on 28 carries with a pair of touchdowns.

“This feels great. We knew all this week when we were preparing for this game that we could do this, and our defense stepped up and played great,” Johnson said. “We just kept building momentum, and those two early touchdowns were huge. We knew they couldn’t stop the run. So just kept running the ball down their throat.”

The Steelers’ final drive of the first half and the opening drive of the third quarter saw them drive inside the Tigers’ 10-yard line before turning the ball over on downs.

Though they may have failed to deliver the knockout punch on offense, the special teams did just that as Jadon King-Vincent ran back Farrell’s fourth punt for a touchdown this year on a 54-yard return to begin the final stanza.

In three games, the Steelers have four punt return touchdowns and one on kickoff. Jadon King-Vincent has three of them.

Following an interception from Nemo Jones, Farrell extended their lead to 30-0 when Aaron Pegues capped a 9-play 65-yard drive with a 13-yard run with 5:33 to play.

“Our defense kind of ground it out, and we were able to run the ball, “said Anthony Pegues. “I figure once we got about a few touchdowns, I didn’t think they could come back with the way our defense was playing. The line and running game started to grind it out and played well.”

Aaron Pegues rushed for 43 yards on 13 carries and completed 5-of-10 passes for 67 yards with an interception.

Sharon was able to thwart the shutout in the closing minutes, aided by 37 yards in penalties against the Steelers when Terrian White scored on a 2-yard run with 63 seconds to play.

White led the Tigers with 34 yards on 13 carries.

Farrell will now prepare to head to Wilmington next Friday night, while Sharon will look to bounce back against Meadville.
