For the second year in a row, the expanded Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference has a week 10 crossover game with each team matching up with a team from the opposite side of the conference. The Central Dragons won the conference championship in 2023, but failed to return this year as their record to this point is 5-4. Similarly, their crossover opponent in the Forest Hills Rangers, has the same record.
The stakes of this game are pretty high and make a huge impact on the District 6 3A playoffs. Assuming that Tyrone beats Chestnut Ridge, the winner between the Dragons and Rangers will host the first round of districts against Tyrone. The loser of the game would travel to Penn Cambria for round one. In the event that Chestnut Ridge wins, then these two teams would rematch and the winner would get the home field.
This game should be very evenly matched as both are led by senior quarterbacks. Eli Muthler leads Central and Nate Cornell leads Forest Hills. Muthler has thrown for 1,607 yards and 16 touchdowns. On the ground he has run for 178 yards and six touchdowns. Cornell has accounted for 1,473 yards and 16 touchdowns through the air. He has also ran for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
Very similar play from quarterbacks, but each team has a clear wide receiver one. The Dragons have been able to pass it to Jay Hoenstine as he has caught 61 passes for 724 yards and 10 touchdowns. Chase Williamson has been the go-to guy for the Rangers, hauling in 40 catches for 600 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Overall, we are going to see a very competitive game Friday night. Very similar teams are going to battle for a chance to have a home playoff game. Forest Hills hosts this contest and kickoff will be at 7 PM.
