Forest Hills Travels to Penn Cambria for Big Week 3 Matchup

| September 6, 2024

The undefeated Penn Cambria Panthers will be tested tonight with a big in-section matchup against the Forest Hills Rangers. This marks the first West 2 game of the season for both teams. Along with that, these two teams have the possibility of facing off a second time in the District 6 3A playoffs.

Penn Cambria enters this game with a 2-0 record with wins over Richland and Philipsburg. Forest Hills has a record of 1-1 with a win over Greater Johnstown and a loss to Clearfield. Both teams are very good, which will make this a competitive game tonight. Let’s take a look at both teams and what they need to do to win.

Forest Hills Rangers

Forest Hills is a very talented team, but they have not put all the pieces together just yet. They are led by senior quarterback Nate Cornell who has thrown for nearly 400 yards and 4 touchdowns in two games. Chase Williamson has been his go to target as he leads the team in receptions with eight, in receiving yards with 151, and he also has a touchdown. Xander Richardson is second in receiving and is also the teams leading rusher with 142 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Rangers have struggled to consistently move the ball this season, but to win tonight, they need to move the ball consistently. Cornell’s completion percentage this far is below 50%, but tonight the target needs to be in the 55%-60% range. That is feasible too, as Cornell is a very talented quarterback. Forest Hills will also need to stop Gavin Harrold on offense. If they can prevent Harrold from breaking free, then Penn Cambria will struggle to score.

Penn Cambria Panthers

Penn Cambria is looking like a very good team this season. Their offense has revolved around Gavin Harrold who has five total touchdowns and over 300 yards so far. Thomas Plunkett leads the team in rushing with 151 yards and also has two interceptions. Derek Hite, a VMI commit, has led the defense with 26 total tackles.

The Panthers defense has done a lot for them this season. They held a very good Richland team to just eight points. To win tonight, they need to apply the pressure to the Ranger offense and force incompletions. If they can prevent Cornell from moving the ball down field, then Penn Cambria should be set up nicely. Offensively, they need quarterback Brady Jones to get the ball into the hands of Harrold.

Forest Hills is looking to upset Penn Cambria tonight in an exciting week 3 matchup between two teams from the West 2 Section of the LHAC. Kickoff is set for 7 PM at Penn Cambria.
