Freedom got some great performances tonight from seniors and juniors

It was senior night for the Patriots at BASD Stadium, senior wide receiver Xavier Dejesus had an 18yd catch for a touchdown. Geovanny Ledee got another interception, seems like he always around the ball, including making catches on the offensive side of the ball. And don’t forget Abraham Pla grinding out yards on the ground or Jacob Hauze making catches and making blocks. But it was three juniors that made the difference on offense for Freedom tonight. Starting with quarterback Michael Stefanak who threw three touchdown passes including two, too junior Davyan Moore for 20 and 81yds. Junior running back Lashawn Johnson was back from an injury to his right hand and was a real shot in the arm for the offense scoring twice.

Northampton won the toss and elected to receive. After a Nathan Stannard kick and a Dom Barkanic return Northampton started 1st and 10 from their own 20yd line. And the Kids come out throwing, Gavin Taff threw a nice pass to Cameron Hersch for 8yds to the 28yd line to start the drive and connected on 5 more passes and ran for 9yds on 4th and 8 from the 32yd line. Chase Kessler ran for 4yds on 1st and 10 from the 23yd line and on 2nd and 6 he ran it 19yds for a touchdown at 5:09 in the 1st qtr and capped off an 80yd, 16 play drive and after Sandt’s kick Northampton led 7-0

Sandt kick and a Moore return has the Patriots starting on their own 37yd line 1st and 10, Pla ran for 7yds to the 44yd line. Then on the next play on 2nd and 3 Stofanak threw too Moore for 4yds and right back to him 2 plays later for 12yds to the 38yd line of Northampton for a 1st down. The Patriots were able to grind their way down to the 18yd line, but the drive stalled and the FG attempt was no good. With the score still 7-0 Northampton got the ball 1st and 10 at their own 20yd line. Taff threw to Sincere Wadlington for a 6yd gain to the 26yd line and that was the end of the 1st qtr. Northampton made it to the 45yd line after Taff ran the ball for 10yds on 3rd and 9 from the 35yd line. But the Kids lost the 10yds right back on the next 2 plays and were back at the 35yd line. Unable to get a 1st down they punted on 4th and 16 from the 39yd line and pinned Freedom on their own 8yd line. The Patriots got a nice gain on a pass from Stofanak to Dejesus for 13yds to the 28yd line and a 1st down. Two plays later on 2nd and 5 from the 33yd line Stofanak completed a pass to Moore 15yds to the 48yd line. Stofanak than connected with his tight end Jacob Hauze 19yds to the Northampton 33yd line and Leshawn Johnson took it from there got his 1st touchdown of the night. Freedom ties the score at 7-7 at 6:04 in the 2nd qtr.

Stannard kicks off and Barkanic returns to the 31yd line of Northampton where they start 1st and 10. The 1st 2 play were runs by Chase Kessler, a flag on 1st down and a 3yd loss on the 2nd, set up 2nd and 23 from the 18yd line. Gavin Taff threw to Chase Kessler who got 21yds back to the 39yd line for a 3rd and 2, but Freedom’s defense came up huge and the Kids lost 3yds and punted on 4th and 5 from the 36yd line. The punt by Noah Kline only made it to the 48yd line where Freedom started 1st and 10. After an incomplete pass to Dejesus, Stofanak handed off to Johnson for 9 and 5yds, then Pla for 3yds. Now at the 35 yd line of Northampton, Stofanak threw to Dejesus for a 13yd gain to the 22yd line. Stofanak had a pass dropped in the endzone on 2nd 12, but 2 plays later on 4th and 8 from the 20yd line he threw to Moore for his first touchdown catch of the night with 56 seconds left in the 2nd qtr Freedom went up 14-7. And that would be the halftime score 14-7 Patriots on top

Freedom got the ball to start the second half and started with good field position at their own 38yd line 1st and 10. Lashawn Johnson got the 3rd qtr started and reeled off an 11 and 23yd runs to move the ball to Northampton’s 28yd line. A personal foul against Northampton moved the ball to the 13yd line and a 1st and 10 for the Patriots. Hughes was stopped for a 1yd gain and Stofanak’s pass was deflected on 2nd and 9. Then Wadlington intercepts Stofanak’s pass and returned it to their own 48yd line and killed the drive and possibly saved a score by Freedom. But unfortunately for the Kids they went 3 and out. A nice punt by Kline had the Patriots starting at their own 16yd line, but it only took 2 play to score on a long 81yd pass from Stofanak to Moore for the 2nd time at 8:33 in the 3rd qtr and that made the score 21-7 Freedom.

Northampton started the drive on their own 22yd line after a Stannard kick and a Barkanic return. Taff started the drive with a nice completion to his favorite target of the night Hersch for 18yds to the 40yd line. Passed again on 1st and 10 this time it was Barkanic on the receiving end for a 7yd gain to the 33yd line. Later in the drive Taff connected again with Hersch on 2nd and 16 from the 33yd line to the 41. But on 3rd and 8 Taff’s pass was intercepted by Geovanny Ledee and that gave the Patriots the ball on the Northampton 39yd line. With a short field Freedom stayed mostly on the ground with Pla, Hughes and Johnson all getting touches and the final touch was by Johnson who ran it from 11yds out for a touchdown at 4:47 in the 3rd qtr. This was after a questionable pass interference call on 4th and 2 from the 21yd line of Northampton and gave Freedom the Ball 11yd line.

Down 3 touchdowns and less than 5 minutes left in the 3rd qtr needed to put points on the board in a hurry. They started at their own 31yd line and Chase Kessler ran for 6yds on 1st and 10. Then on 2nd and 4 from the 37yd line Taff went to the air and hit Jeremiah Strowder for 19yds to the Freedom 44yd line for a first down. Next Dom Barkanic added 10 more yards to the 34yd line for another 1st down, Rickert added 5 more yards and the Kids are moving down the field. Aided by a pass interference call after an incomplete pass that was ruled a lateral and lost 6yds. On 3rd and 10 from the 20yd line Taff threw to Kline who made the catch for a 13yd gain to the 7yd line. Chase Kessler got it to the one and Keegan Hackett ran it in at 1:38 left in the 3rd qtr, that closed the gap to 28-14 Freedom on top.

Freedom started on their own 21yd line 1st and 10 and was called for holding and moved them back to the 11yd line and just when it looked like this drive was going nowhere Stofanak connected with Dejesus on 3rd and 14 from the 17yd line for 39yds to the Northampton 44yd line. Johnson got them to the 30 and 26yd line with his runs and Hughes got them to the 18yd line. Then Stofanak and Dejesus teamed up for a touchdown at 10:22 left in the 4th qtr, that was Michael Stofanak’s 3rd touchdown pass of the night.

Northampton started on their own 35yd line and drove all the way to Freedom’s 11yd line, but turned the ball over on downs with 6:50 left in the game to Freedom. The Patriots ran the ball and ran out the clock, Freedom wins 35-14
