Freedom outplayed East Stroudsburg South on both sides of the ball

Both teams came into the game last night wanting to make a statement on what the second half of their season was going to look like Freedom did that with good performances from Junior running back Jahaire Hughes who ran for two touchdowns, one from 9 yards and one from 6 yards. And junior quarterback Michael Stofanak spread the ball around to senior wide receiver Xavier Dejesus 51 yards, senior tight end Jacob Hauze 20 yards and junior wide receiver Davyan Moore 32yards for three touchdowns. Senior running back Abraham Pla added a 25yard touchdown run after senior defensive back Geovanny Ledee intercepted his second of three interceptions on the night.

Freedom won the toss and differed to East Stroudsburg South. Nathan Stannard kicked off for Freedom and the Cavaliers mishandled the kick and Freedom recovered the ball on the 13yard line. Then on first and ten Jahaire Hughes ran for four yards to the 9yard line and Stofanak handed the ball to Hughes again, this time he scored and after the extra point only 49 seconds into the 1st quarter the Patriots led the Cavaliers 7-0

Nathan Stannard kicked off to the 2yard line and Orion Tucker returned it to the 25yard line. After two incomplete passes, on third and ten Ivan Laubach lost 6 yards to the 19yard line. He then punted the ball to Freedom who started on the 42, Stofanak threw incomplete on 1st and ten but completed his next two passes the second one to Davyan Moore for 17 yards to the 15yard line. Then on 4th and one from 6yard line Jahaire Hughes ran in his second touchdown of the night and after the extra point the Patriots led East Stroudsburg South 14-0 at 7:54 in the 1st quarter.

Nathan Stannard kicked off for Freedom and Lyric Parkins returned the ball for the Cavaliers to the 17yard line. On 1st and ten Laubach missed his target, he did connect on his next pass to Gianni Gonnella for 5 yards to 22yard line. But on 3rd and five from the 17yard line Ivan Laubach’s pass was intercepted by Geovanny Ledee and Freedom got the ball back on the 17yard line. And that possession was short lived because on 1st and ten the Patriots fumble the ball right back to East Stroudsburg South who needed to capitalize on their good fortune to get the ball back after they gave up an interception. But that’s not what happened, after no gain on 1st and ten and two incomplete passes, plus a 5yard penalty on 3rd and 15 at the 12yard line Geovanny Ledee got his 2nd interception of the night, this time off Greyson Fuller who came in for Ivan Laubach and returned it to the 32yard line. On 1st and ten Stofanak threw to Dejesus for 7 yards to the 25yard line, that set up Abraham Pla who ran it in for the score and after the extra point Freedom led 21-0 at 5:16 in the 1st quarter.

Stannard kicked off to the 18yard line and Lyric Parkins returned the ball to the 32yard line. The Cavaliers knew they needed to put some points on the board in a hurry to keep Freedom within reach. Fuller on 3rd and nine from the 33yard line connected with Lyric Parkins for a 12yard gain too the45yard line, two plays later on 3rd and ten he threw too Justin Mauro for a 7yard completion to Freedom’s 48yard line. That left the Cavaliers with a 4th and three, and Fuller completed a 11yard pass to Jason Greene-Williams to the 37yard line for a 1st and ten. Passes on 1st and 2nd downs were incomplete, the next pass to Lyric Parkins was incomplete as well but a pass interference call gave East Stroudsburg South a 1st down at the 22yard line. Incomplete pass, a holding call later on 2nd and thirteen from the 25yard line Fuller connected with Ayden Walker for an 8yard gain too the 17yard line, that left the Cavaliers with 3rd and five which resulted in an incomplete pass to Zoumana Kone. And what was East Stroudsburg Souths best drive of the night ended when Fuller’s pass was deflected, and the Cavaliers turned the ball over on downs to Freedom. On 1st and ten from the 17yard line Stofanak threw to Dejesus for a 17yard gain too the 34yard line. Next Stofanak connected with Geovanny Ledee for 10 yards to the 44yard line and another 1st down. After Stofanak ran for 5yards to the 49yard line. And on 2nd and five Stofanak aired it out to Xavier Dejesus for a 51yard score and after the extra point Freedom led 28-0 with 16 seconds left in the 1st quarter.

Just when you thought it could not get any worse for the Cavaliers, it did. On 1st and ten from their own 24yard line East Stroudsburg South put the ball on the ground again and Freedom recovered the fumble and had the ball 1st and ten on the Cavaliers 18yard line. Stofanak handed the ball off to Michael Genao for 4 yards to the 14yard line. And after a 2yard loss, on 3rd and twelve from the 20yard line Stofanak threw to Jacob Hauze for the score and with the extra point Freedom led 35-0 with 10:52 in the 2nd quarter.

Stannard kicked off to the goal line and was returned by Avery Walker to the 20yard line. On 1st and ten Fuller had his pass intercepted for the second time and off the deflection Geovanny Ledee came down with his 3rd interception of the night and gave Freedom great field position at the Cavaliers 39yard line. Two plays later at 9:45 in the 2nd quarter Michael Stofanak threw his third touchdown pass of the night, this one too Davyan Moore on 2nd and three from the 32yard line at 9:45 in the 2nd quarter and put Freedom up by a score of 42-0.

42-0 was also the score at halftime and the final score as well. Not much happened in the second half for either team, Freedom went to their subs, getting them valuable playing time. And East Stroudsburg South could not get any offense to speak of, even against Freedom’s subs. The defense did keep the Patriots out of the endzone in the 2nd half. Freedom evened their record to 3-3 and has a short week and faces Bethlehem Catholic Thursday in a crosstown rivalry, with Northampton, Easton, and Liberty to close out the season. East Stroudsburg South fell to 1-5 and face Pocono Mt East, Pocono Mt west, Stroudsburg, and finishes up with East Stroudsburg North.
