Although not on the level of California, Texas, or Florida, Pennsylvania is one of the premier states for pro talent. Over 80 players hailing from Pennsylvania have been drafted over the last ten years, and this year, another group of pros from the Keystone State were installed into NFL teams.
#3 New York Giants: Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State (LaSalle College)
The prized possession of the PA draft class is that of top-3 pick Abdul Carter. Coming to Penn State as a 4-star LaSalle product, Carter quickly became the focal point of the front seven. In just his first year as a pure Edge rusher, Carter racked up TFLs and Sacks multiple times a game. The Giants add him to an already stacked defensive line with stars littered around Carter. Abdul Carter becomes the highest drafted PA High School player since Saquon Barkley went #2 overall, to a team Carter knows very well.
#181 Philadelphia Eagles: Kyle McCord, QB, Syracuse (St. Joe’s Prep)
Once upon a time, Kyle McCord was Pennsylvania High School Football. He and Marvin Harrison Jr terrorized the state as a lethal QB-WR duo. Those two took their talents to the Midwest to play for Ryan Day and Ohio State. Harrison excelled, but McCord didn’t pick up as quickly. After a below-expectation Ohio State campaign, McCord went to New York and the Syracuse Orange, and he was phenomenal. McCord had some of the best stats in the country for Syracuse and had his crowning moment when he upset top-10 Miami to knock the Hurricanes out of the College Football Playoff. As far as his NFL fit goes, McCord expects to be at best QB2 for the defending Super Bowl Champions. McCord and Tanner McKee will battle for the right to be Jalen Hurts’s backup. Playing on a team as dominant as Philadelphia is, expect McCord to get regular-season action if the game gets out of hand.
#185 Pittsburgh Steelers: Will Howard, QB, Ohio State (Downingtown West)
National Champion three months ago, Steeler today, what a 2025 Will Howard is having. The former Downingtown product originally took his talents to Manhattan, Kansas, to start for the Kansas State Wildcats. After a few good years, Ohio State came calling. Howard took the opportunity to be the distributor on the best roster in College Football, and didn’t waste any time. Despite 2 losses on the season, Ohio State went on one of the most dominant runs in College Football history en route to a National Championship, which gave the Steelers the confidence to draft him in the 6th round. As far as his NFL career concerns, this is a great spot to land. Currently, Mason Rudolph is the starter for the Steelers, which isn’t great. Howard can become a starter as early as year one, presuming Aaron Rodgers doesn’t sign to the silver and black. Maybe not the QB Steelers fans were hoping for, but Howard offers solid accuracy with dual-threat ability if needed. He will need to improve many facets of his game if he wants to be able to adapt to the speed of the NFL.
