It looked like Dallas was going to have their hands full with the Nanticoke Trojans as we hit late in the first quarter. Suddenly that all changed in the blink of an eye. The Mountaineers got a blocked punt that resulted in their first touchdown of the game then recovered a fumble on the next kickoff that made it 14-0 as Dylan Geskey had an outstanding night as he scored five touchdowns as they advanced to the District Final for the first time since 2020 as they defeated Nanticoke 48-22. “Towards the end of the first half, we were spitting and sputtering a little bit and we went in at halftime. We had a pretty quick discussion and leadership took over from there. Came out and handled things we should have in the second half.” said Dallas head coach Rich Mannello.

The Mountaineers started with the ball and drove all the way to the Nanticoke 17 yard line with a fourth and 6 but the Trojans defense held and got the ball back for their defense. Nanticoke went three and out on their first drive of the game. Dallas punted on their next possession and was able to pin the Trojans at their own 8 yard line. The Mountaineers were able to force a punt and got the block and got the ball at the Nanticoke three yard line. Dylan Geskey scored from three yards out for a 7-0 Dallas lead with 3:13 remaining in the first quarter.

Nanticoke then fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Mountaineers recovered. Dallas capitalized as Brady Zapoticky went to Zach Paczewski from seven yards out and made it 15-0 after the Trojans went offsides and Dallas elected to go for two. Nanticoke has another three and outs and tried to run out of the punt formation but were unsuccessful. Three plays later, Geskey scored from 14 yards out for his second score of the game and a 21-0 lead with 11:06 remaining in the second quarter.

The Trojans were able to get on the board as Zack Fox scores from 34 yards out for a 21-6 lead. Nanticoke’s defense held strong and forced a three and out but Dallas tried to do a fake punt but were unsuccessful. Nanticoke was unable to capitalize as Gavin Lewis picked off a Trojan pass. The Mountaineers were forced to punt. However, on the punt, trying to avoid the rush, the punter ended up running the ball but was short. Nanticoke got a first and goal at the Dallas eight yard line. The Trojans faced a fourth and goal and the pass was intercepted by Lucas Tirpak and we hit halftime.

The third quarter belonged to Dallas. After Nanticoke’s opening drive of the second half where they went for it on fourth down was unsuccessful, it gave the Mountaineers good field position at around midfield. Geskey got his third score of the game as he scored from 19 yards out for a 28-6 Dallas lead with 7:42 remaining in the third quarter. On the next Dallas drive, Geskey scored his fourth touchdown of the game from two yards out to make it 35-6 with 2:58 left in the third quarter. Geskey completed his night in the fourth quarter with a 18 yard touchdown run for his outstanding fifth of the night for a 42-6 lead with 10:45 remaining as we hit the mercy rule.

Nanticoke did get a pair of touchdowns from Eugene Gyle to cut the lead down to 42-22. The Mountaineers finished the scoring as Hunter Pitcavage scored from 74 yards out to make it 48-22 with 2:42 to go in the game as Dallas advanced to the District Final with a 48-22 victory over the Nanticoke Trojans. Nanticoke ends their season with a 7-5 record. Dallas improved to 12-0 and will host Valley View next Friday night at 7 PM for the District Championship.
