The Greater Johnstown Trojans have won their second game in as many weeks with a 42-21 victory over Westmont-Hilltop. This marks their first multi-win season since 2017 and they look like a team that could win a playoff game in the District 6 4A bracket. Their offense is very dangerous and they showed that on Saturday afternoon. Seven different Trojans accounted for touchdowns, which shows their ability to spread the ball around.

Head Coach Antwuan Reed said, “We’ve got a lot of guys, a lot of playmakers, that are working hard and getting better.”

Sophomore quarterback Julius Reed led the Trojans this afternoon, accounting for 374 passing yards and three passing touchdowns. He found Zymir Reed, Mekhi Matthews, and Raheem Braswell for touchdowns. Zymir accounted for 148 receiving yards and his touchdown came on a catch over two defenders as the clock ran down for halftime.

Coach Reed said, “The guys were locked in all week. They knew they had to pay attention to everything and keep competing. They knew it was gonna be a tough game and they had to keep fighting and coming out. They handled adversity, they are getting better with adversity, which is great. I’m really proud of the kids this week and the focus that they had this week.”

Johnstown also scored three rushing touchdowns from Gavin Miller, Deshawn Legrier, and Ranson Goggans.

Westmont was not able to get their power run offense to work for the majority of the day. The first drive of the game, they drove right down the field and finished with a touchdown from Jaden Kane. Bryce Goodman ran for a 53 yard touchdown after the half and Isaac Hunt ran one in after a lightning delay. That was all the Hilltopper offense was able to do today.

Greater Johnstown improved their record to 2-3 and will travel to Bishop McCort-Carroll next week. Westmont-Hilltop dropped to 0-5 and will host Penn Cambria next week.
