GROVE CITY, PA – Following an off week after their 41-0 victory over Geneva, the Grove City Wolverines will look ahead to Saint Vincent.
Grove City is 1-0 for the seventh consecutive year, dating back to 2018 when the Wolverines defeated Juniata in their season opener, 38-23. Since then, Grove City has produced seven consecutive winning seasons, with an impressive record of 47-14 (.770%). However, it was last season that was one to remember.
In 2023, Grove City went undefeated in the regular season, cementing their spot in the D3 Playoffs. In their round one matchup against no. 9 Susquehanna, a touchdown with 7 seconds remaining would give the Wolverines their first D3 playoff win in school history. Grove City would lose the next week by one point against the eventual D3 Champions, Cortland.
Head coach Andrew DiDonato and Grove City would look to build off their impressive 2023 campaign, and have done so thus far. In week one against Geneva, the Wolverines topped the Golden Tornadoes in every category. Grove City dominated the total yards, 694 to 62, with Geneva only having two offensive plays in Grove City territory. Quarterback Logan Pfeuffer went 19-24 for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Saint Vincent is coming off a win of their own, after defeating Allegheny 41-20 last week. Prior to that, the Bearcats were defeated 59-6 in week one against Washington & Jefferson. Senior quarterback Israel Reed is 17-30 with 226 yards and 2 touchdowns this season. Keegan O’Brien is the teams leading receiver with 78 receiving yards and 4 receptions. Wiley Purry leads the defense with 21.0 tackles, 1 interception and a forced fumble. While Donte Sanders and Billy Beck lead the team in rushing yards, with a combined 248 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Following their game in Latrobe, the Wolverines will return home next Saturday (9/28) against Allegheny at 7:00PM.
