The Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders continued their undefeated start to the season with a 30-12 victory over Bishop McCort-Carroll. Although the game was won by three possessions, this game was closer than the score indicates. The Marauders had a one point lead going into half time, but after halftime, Bishop Guilfoyle fired off all cylinders to secure this victory.

Hamilton Gates led the offense tonight with three touchdowns, including a very impressive catch for a touchdown. Nicholas McCloskey also caught a touchdown, which left quarterback Chase Kissell with two passing touchdowns. Overall, Coach Wheeler was very impressed with his team tonight. He really emphasized how everyone pitched in to help tonight as a team and not just one individual performer.

Gates seems to be made for the big play as this marks back to back weeks with impressive plays. Coach Wheeler described him as a player, “You leave talking about him.”

Gates took advantage of what the defense was giving them with a double move on his big catch. Before the play he told Kissell to “throw it up” and he did just that, resulting in a touchdown.

Coach Wheeler was very impressed with how his skilled positions were able to make plays in the second half and battle adversity. The senior leadership Kissell and the other receivers showed tonight stood out to him a lot as well.

McCort was in it this entire game though. Coach Smith also was very impressed with the “steps his team is taking” in turning this program around and becoming competitive again. Cleaning up the mistakes from tonight in turnovers and bad snaps are what Coach Smith believes this team needs to fix to be able to battle more top teams. He was very impressed with the fight in his team against the #1 team in Single-A.

Coach Smith also believes this team is completely different from last year. “We are a completely different football team. The work these boys have put in the weight room, the offseason they have had, and the resilience that this football team has come through over the last few months. Everyone has counted us out of everything and it’s up to us to prove we can play in this league. Being great is the goal and we didn’t play great tonight, but we played good and got better.”

Next week, Bishop Guilfoyle will host undefeated Bellefonte and Bishop McCort-Carroll will face Chestnut Ridge.
