Harrisburg Cougars were led by their harassing defense over Manheim Township Blue Streaks, 34-7.

In recent years, these two powerhouses consistently battling has created prolific suspense and thick rivalry. This year was no different. The atmosphere was alive, Severance Field was packed out, and just a touch of wind set the tone for Playoff Football. Kicking off this Semi-Finals war was the Manheim Township Blue Streaks, who elected to start the second half. This decision by the Blue Streaks paid off for the moment as both offenses started sluggish and self inflicted. However on the Harrisburg Cougars third drive, they reached inside the ten numerous times, with a slew of holding calls killing them. These holding calls eventually led to an interception thrown by Senior Jaiyon Lewis caught by Township Senior Daryus Dixon.

Manheim Township had gained momentum momentarily and looked to convert points off their crucial forced turnover. Senior standout, Messiah Mickens of the Harrisburg Cougars had other plans after he read the Blue Streaks screen pass like a book and took it home for a 29 yard interception return. Following this interception return, Manheim Township was in need of points to cool off Harrisburg’s fumes. Instead, the fumes were ignited as Blue Streaks Senior Jack Kennoff threw another Pick-6, this time to Jeremy Beroa to make this one a 14-0 game entering the second quarter.

The second quarter served as a defensive stallworth on both ends. From penalties up and down the field to missed opportunities, especially for the Blue Streaks. Toward the end of the half, Manheim Township blocked a Harrisburg punt and still could not strike the scoreboard. Just these second quarter drives alone, foreshadowed the intensity and physicality shown throughout both squads. The Blue Streaks were nearly in desperation up to this point and in need to find the endzone receiving the ball out of intermission.

Coming out of the halfway point, the Blue Streaks offense continued to look flat, or stale if you will. Within just a few plays, Jack Kennoff threw his third interception of the day, this time to Senior Lineback Noah Ewell. Unlike the Blue Streaks, Harrisburg Cougars capitalized with a 40 yard deep shot to Elias Coke off the arm of Mikal Shank Jr to lengthen their lead to 28-0. Back on offense was the Blue Streaks, despite being short lived after turning over on downs. A few plays later, their defense showed up with a forced fumble trying to help spark life into their offense. Even that failed to work as Township fumbled inside their own five, giving Messiah Mickens a walk-in appointment with the endzone from 1 yard out.

Manheim Township finally responded on their next drive with a 22 yard connection from Jack Kennoff to Chase Fletcher. Harrisburg followed with an interception thrown by Mikal Shank Jr, which quickly became irrelevant as the Blue Streaks failed to respond and the Cougars closed this one out after a 8 yard rush by PJ Dent finalizing the score at 34-7 after a blocked PAT.
