A collective level of dismantlement was displayed Friday evening after the Hempfield Black Knights took care of business in blowout fashion at home against J.P McCaskey, winning 56-6. An offensive explosion granted the Black Knights 2nd place in the L.L Conference behind Wilson, while the Tornadoes found themselves in 4th place with a loss under their belt.
The opening kickoff turned out to be a snippet of the kind of control Hempfield carried throughout this one. For Hempfield, to start this game with a kick return across the 50 yard line, it served as a momentum shifter. Their Junior Tail-Back Layton Duncan punched in a score a few plays later. The following drive, McCaskey Tornadoes failed to weather the storm it seemed, until they forced a fumble on the Hempfield punt return. Something that doesn’t come around often for the Tornadoes is points off turnovers. They were able to fight into the endzone with a tush push on 4th & goal, scoring their first points in the 1st quarter all year so far. This was the drive that gave fans hope.

But just like that. When the momentum seemed to be shifting, Hempfield’s special teams came alive with another deep kick return, practically guaranteeing points on the board. The Black Knights did just that with a touchdown pass to Sophomore Cooper Keever and due to his run after catch explosiveness, he regained the lead for his team.

The next couple drives stalled until the Black Knights didn’t. McCaskey forced them into a punt shy of mid-field and they capitalized. Another Junior for Hempfield, Matthew Talbott got a taste of the endzone. After the Talbott score, McCaskey did not find a flow state and their next two defensive possessions were huge screen plays given up for scores, courtesy of Senior Black Knight, Yune Abiola.

Yet ANOTHER screen play score the very next play for the Hempfield Black Knights. That’s two for Hempfield Senior, Yune Abiola. @PaFootballNews @JPMcCaskeyFB @HempfieldFB @Juniorabiola26

35-6 at the half and the theme was no different. Then, Brian Williams for Hempfield made his presence felt. After intercepting a screen pass attempt, the very next play, he caught for 6 to extend the Black Knight lead. By this point, fans would begin avoiding traffic in the McCaskey stands. Since their first possession, punting and being met in the backfield on 4th downs was their occurrence. A lack of rhythm and ability to create momentum pushed this one out of reach. Matthew Talbott rushed for two more touchdowns, completing the hat-trick and sealing the deal.

Another District 3 foe has beaten the McCaskey Tornadoes. Not just any District 3 opponent, but a Hempfield team that handed the Tornadoes their first conference loss, while the Knights earned their first conference win. Overall, the Tornadoes still have yet to tally the win column, falling to an 0-4 record on the year. They’ll look to change that on the road next Friday(9/19) against William Tennant at 7:00PM. While the Black Knights reach .500 becoming 2-2 and look to continue to display high level football against a District 3 and conference matchup, the Manheim Township Blue Streaks on Friday(9/19) at 7:00PM
