Some weeks you’re the hammer and other weeks you’re the nail. For two of the state’s top teams this week they were clearly the hammer and their counterparts were most definitely the nail.
My week started at Southern Lehigh where the host Spartans welcomed foe Blue Mountain for a District 11 semifinal showdown. The #4 4A state-ranked Spartans were looking to gain momentum for a deep playoff run and they found their stride on this night with a convincing 55-14 thumping of the visiting Eagles. The dynamic duo of QB Colton Sams and RB Sean Steckert were on point again leading the Spartans to the victory and a berth in the 4A District 11 Final next week. A hearty congratulations to Sean Steckert who eclipsed the 2,000 yard rushing mark for the season!
Here’s some highlights from the Southern Lehigh vs. Blue Mountain matchup…

The second hammer and nail knockdown of my week took place in Coal Country where 4A #3 ranked team in the state Shamokin faced off against Jersey Shore in a rematch of two teams that have battled to the final second in numerous contests over the past two seasons.
Last season, Shamokin won both meetings against Jersey Shore scoring a 30-28 regular season win and then a 28-27 overtime thriller in the District 4 Final. This season, Shamokin proved victorious in the regular season matchup vs. Shore with another OT dandy 43-42.
This District 4 donnybrook between Shamokin and Jersey Shore fell short of the previous matchups for post-season drama as the Indians raced past their rivals 37-0 on a rain-soaked Friday night under the lights. The Shamokin defense shone on this night including a five interception performance from Colin Steinhart including one he took back for the score to lead the team to another 4A District 4 Title!
Check out the highlights from Shamokin vs. Jersey Shore…
