ROUNDTRIP – 632 MILES
Thursday, November 13
My quadruple-header of playoff games and 600+ mile journey across the state began this week in Catasaqua for the 4A District 11 title game between state-ranked #4 Southern Lehigh and Bethlehem Catholic. In addition to the exploits of QB Colton Sams, Southern Lehigh has been powered by the legs of RB Sean Steckert and this night would be no different as the senior back accounted for 275 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Southern Lehigh found themselves leading just 28-21 at halftime but the Spartans proved too much for Bethlehem Catholic en route to a solid 49-28 victory.
Check out some highlights from the 4A District 11 Final!

District Championship #2 on my state tour this week featured a 2A donnybrook between District 4 teams that have accounted for eight consecutive state titles in the 2A classification (Southern Columbia 7 and Troy 1). While Troy entered the game ranked #1 in the state at 2A what took place on Friday night in the cornfields of Southern Columbia was a textbook execution of Tiger dominance that’s been taking place for decades. Southern Columbia left nothing on the table as they pieced together several 10+ play touchdown drives, played stellar defense and proved why their small school has collected 14 PA State Football titles. The Tigers notched a 42-0 victory over rival Troy and could be well on their way to a run at a remarkable 15th State PA Football championship.
Check out the highlights from Southern Columbia vs. Troy…

My District Championship tour took a turn to Western PA on Saturday morning as I made the four hour trek to Pine Richland HS for a dynamite District 7 final featuring 4A McKeesport battling the legendary football program of Aliquippa. I’ve been fortunate to be in attendance for prior McKeesport vs. Aliquippa matchups including their recent District Final faceoff and few environments can top the electric atmosphere that is Tigers vs. Quips.
While McKeesport entered the game ranked #1 in the District in 4A in addition to #1 in the state Aliquippa came into the contest ranked #7 in the District and unranked in the state. Throw all of those rankings out the window when these two heavyweights collide!
McKeepsort raced out to an early 6-0 lead on 5 star RB Kemon Spell’s jaunt down the sidelines to the end zone but the Tigers offense was mostly subdued for the remainder of the game as Aliquippa made numerous big plays on both sides of the ball en route to their 21st District 7 title in a 21-12 victory.
Here’s the highlights from Aliquippa vs. McKeesport…

For my 4th District Final of the week I drove from Pittsburgh to Altoona to watch 2A District 6 Bishop McCort tackle Richland at legendary Mansion Park. While Bishop McCort defeated Richland 31-12 in the regular season the Rams had revenge on their minds and they got it and the District 6 2A crown in a defense-led 14-7 victory.
Here’s the highlights from Richland vs. Bishop McCort on a rain-soaked night at Mansion Park…
