A Look Back on Week Two and a Look Ahead to Week Three
Well with two games now in the books across District XI and the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, two teams stand out in the South: Nazareth and Emmaus are for the moment in the drivers seat, but for how long in the one of the most competitive conferences in the state is the question.
Nazareth (2-0) coming off impressive 28-10 win at home over Parkland. The Blue Eagles gave up a quick touchdown just four plays into the contest, but then held the Trojans to just a field goal the rest of the game. Sonny Sasso had two touchdown passes on 12-22 passing for 145 yards. Coach Tom Falzone earned his 100th career win as well. Nazareth will host 2-0 Bethlehem Catholic on Friday.
Emmaus (2-0) Harold Fairclough’s squad won a defensive battle with Allentown Central Catholic 12-7. A Jake Fotta to Rafael Terrero 42 yard touchdown pass was the difference.
Bethlehem Catholic (2-0). The Golden Hawks defense pitched a shutout 21-0 over a game Pocono Mountain West Staturday afternonn. Leading just 6-0 at intermission a Antonio Ramos-Dobboins pick six and a late 2 yard run by Rahmel Terry sealed the deal.
The Rest Of The Scores:
Northampton 41 Stroudsburg 4
Freedom 33 Easton 20
Whitehall 33 Liberty 22
East Stroudsburg South 28 Dieruff 0
Pleasant Valley 42 William Allen 13
East Stroudsburg North 28 Pocono Mountain East 14
In the EPC North Northampton, Pleasant Valley and East Stroudsburg South are in control of the Division coming off and impressive 41-4 win over Stroudsburg and have won 20 straight EPC North games. Blaise Jones carried the load for South with 25 touches for 165 yards in the shutout of Dieruff. Fela Olaniyan picked up 135 yards for the Bears and their triple-option offense that kept the Canaries off balance in the contest.
Congratulations to East Stroudsburg North for snapping their 19-game losing streak dating back to October, 2019, with a 20-14 win over Pocono Mountain East Friday night.Freshman quarterback connected with Michael watts Jr for a last minute touchdown clinching the victory.
Looking to this weeks’ games and Hollywood’s Bold Prediction Prognostications: Last week 7-2 and 15-3 on the season.
POCONO MOUNTAIN EAST(0-2) at WILLIAM ALLEN(0-2) Friday Night. PME lossed to ESN to snap Timberwolves 19 game winning streak does not bold well going into game with Canaries. Allen QB Austin Snyder did throw for over 200 yards and touchdown against Pleasant Valley. Hollywood Prediction William Allen by 10.
NORTHAMPTON (2-0) at EAST STROUDSBURG NORTH (1-1) Friday night. The Timberwolves one-game win streak will come to an abrupt end as Konkrete Kids have to many weapons. Northampton by 48.
DIERUFF (0-2) at POCONO MOUNTAIN WEST (0-2). Both teams looking for their initial win. Panthers defense looked good against Becahi last week, holding them to just six points at half. Offense struggled completing on 50 percent of their passes for 50 yards, but expect a close game as the Huskies opened up with two strong opponents. Pocono Mountain West by 7.
LIBERTY (0-2) at STROUDSBURG (1-1). Mounties could only muster 2 safeties to open the scoring against Northampton, but then gave up 41 points in loss to K-Kids. Stroudsburg limited to just 96 yards of offense. Liberty again was snake-bit after losing to Central Catholic in week one 34-27, the Hurricanes gave up a couple late scores to Whitehall in 33-22 loss. Hurricanes get their 2nd win in 20 tries with 14 point win.
EMMAUS(2-0) at WHITEHALL (1-1). The Zephyrs coming off that come-from-behind win over Liberty could use this win to make a statement in the EPC South race. Trey Dogmanits threw for three scores and 200 yards against the Hurricanes. Nigel Linton ran for almost 90 yards and had a scoring catch. Emmaus, who are ranked #8 in the state by PFN coming off a 12-7 win over Central Catholic may have had a let-down after defeating Freedom opening week 19-13. Expect the Green Hornet offense to get on track. Emmaus by 20.
EASTON (0-2) at ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC (1-1) Saturday night. Easton trying to avoid and 0-3 start after dropping an 33-20 decision to Freedom, did mange over 300 yards in offense against the Patriots. Rovers had nearly 170 yards rushing and JuJu Fears caught 5 balls for 61 yards. The Vikings outgained Emmaus last week 145-120 but only managed one score via Caiden Shaffer and had less than 40 yards passing against the Hornets. This should a close game with both teams needing a win. Hollywood taking Vikings at home by 7. HOLLYWOOD WILL BE AT THIS GAME
EAST STROUDSBURG SOUTH (2-0) at PLEASANT VALLEY (2-0). The Cavaliers were balanced on offense against Dieruff, Blaise Jones picked up 156 yards rushing and Colby Mitchell passed for 156 yards in the shutout. Pleasant Valley starts 2-0 for second consecutive season. Bears dropped a 36-14 decision in 2012 to ESS. This will be game of the night in EPC-North. Hollywood feels Bears not quite their yet, but will stay close, ESS by 7.
BETHLEHEM CATHOLIC (2-0) at NAZARETH (2-0). Becahi might have been looking a little bit ahead to this game against PMW as the Golden hawks could only muster a 21-0 Saturday afternoon. Defense played well holding the panthers to under a 100 yards of offense and did not allow them to pass the 35 yard line of the Hawks. Nazareth looked to be clicking as they allowed an early touchdown to Parkland and then outscored the Trojans 28-3. Sonny Sasso had a great passing day and has plenty of weapons to choose from. Depends on which offense shows up for the Golden Hawks, then one that put up 35 against Whitehall or the one Saturday. This defense will be a test for potent Blue Eagle offense, but Hollywood has eagles flying over Hawks by 14.
PARKLAND(1-1) at FREEDOM (1-1) Friday. Hollywood will be at this contest at BASD Stadium. Neither team would want start their season with 2 losses. Last year Freedom was 2-2 then went on to win District XI 6A championship. Parkland looked good early getting a touchdown at Nazareth in opening two minutes but were shutdown the remainder of the game. Freedom went into Cottingham Stadium and came out on top over Easton. Ethan Neidig passed for 172 yards on 10 of 13 passing and picked up nearly 70 yards on the ground. Jalen Fletcher also had 80 yards rushing. Patriots defense did give up over 300 yards in offense to the Rovers. Should be The Game of Week! Freedom gets it done by 12.
