A Recap of Week Eight and a Look Ahead to Week Nine in the Colonial League Teams.
This is the exciting time of the 2021 high school football season in the Schuylkill/Colonial League as we head into the final two weeks of the regular season and having several playoff seeding’s and jockeying still to be decided. The only thing we know fore sure, Northwestern Lehigh clinched a playoff spot in the 4A classification, North Schuylkill in 3A, Palmerton and Northern Lehigh have also punched their ticket to the postseason. After that we must wait and see how things shake out one game at a time. Let’s take a look at what happened this past weekend.
Northwestern Lehigh Tigers 22 Pottsville Crimson Tide 14 Friday night at Tigers Stadium
All eyes were on New Tripoli Friday night as the 6-1 Pottsville Crimson Tide rolled into town to face 7-0 Northwestern Lehigh. Behind the quarterback Justin Holmes gaining 162 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns. He also picked off a Pottsville pass in the end zone right before halftime and forced a fumble on Pottsville QB Jacze Carbello-Snowell that was recovered by Dalton Clymer of Northwestern with less than four minutes left in the game with the score 22-14 at the Tide 34. The Tigers ran out the clock as Holmes picked up a first down on a fourth-and-one from the Pottsville twelve with under a minute to play.
Bangor Slaters 37 Wilson Warriors 6 Smith Field at Wilson
Saturday afternoon, the Bangor Slaters used a punishing running attack in dominating Wilson. Quarterback Eric Striba and running back Kael Godshalk led the way with 181 yards and 107 yards respectively. Striba scored 4 times and Godshalk picked up a score. Defensively Jacob Weaver had four sacks in the contest. Stem was only 9 of 17 passing for 89 yards and three interceptions.

Christian tossed for 140 yards on 7 completions and two touchdowns in a 31-14 win over Pine Grove

Lucykanish picked up 100 yards and two score on just 5 carries in a 41-18 win over Mahanoy Area
Dylan Smoyer QB Northern Lehigh
Dylan was eight of thirteen passing for 161 yards and three scores in the Bulldogs win over Pen Argyl 62-30
James Wisecarver QB Southern Lehigh
The Spartan signal caller threw for 150 yards on 6 of 7 passing in a 16-13 win over Blue Mountain.

Looking Ahead to Week Eight
The Game of the Week will at Palmerton Friday night as the 6-2 Minersville Battlin’ Miners face the 7-1 Palmerton Blue Bombers at 7pm. Palmerton’s only blemish was a 17-14 loss to Jim Thorpe on September 3rd but are on a six game winning streak and averaging 47.5ppg since that loss. Quarterback Matthew Machalik has 700 yard on 45-78 passing with 5 touchdowns an 2 interceptions. He also leads the team in rushing with 471 yards on 56 carries and 9 scores.
Minersville is led by QB John Adams with 1981 yards while completing 122 pass on 193 attempts 31 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Adams leads the team in rushing 215 yards on 93 carries and 5 scores. The Miners two losses were to Tri-Valley opening night 47-7 and then to Mahanoy Area on September 24th 20-13. More to come on this game later in the week including a prediction.
