| October 10, 2023

Making the turn for home in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and only one team has clinched a spot in the District XI playoffs.

There are just 3 games left in the 2023 EPC Football regular season, but so many questions still remain as teams try to qualify for the 4A, 5A and 6A PIAA state classifications for the upcoming District XI tournament in November.

Parkland is the only team still left with an unblemished mark 7-0 and has clinched a postseason spot and have games with Bethlehem Catholic at home, then a road game at Easton and will finish up at home with Emmaus for the battle of Cedar Crest Blvd. More information and updated District XI Power Rankings will be discussed in the Colonial/Schuylkill League forum to be published at a later time Tuesday.

PaFootballNews.com has three teams from the EPC ranked in top 10 state rankings Parkland and Nazareth in 6A, the Trojans at #6 and The Blue Eagles at the Blue Eagles at #10. Allentown Central Catholic is in at #6 in 4A.

Let’s take a look back at score from this past weekend:

Parkland 42 William Allen 0
Pocono Mtn West 38 East Stroudsburg North 13
East Stroudsburg South 42 Pocono Mtn East 8
Stroudsburg 21 Louis Dieruff 0
Northampton 42 Pleasant Valley 7
Allentown Central Catholic 23 Liberty 20

Week Eight Contests and Predictions

(1-6) EAST STROUDSBURG NORTH TIMBERWOLVES at (1-0) LOUIS DIERUFF HUSKIES FRIDAY 7PM at J. BIRNEY CRUM STADIUM, ALLENTOWN.

The Timberwolves are struggling on offense scoring just ten touchdowns all season as a team. Eight of those score came from Romeo Carmen-King and Nathanael Clay. The Huskies were limited to just 37 yards rushing last week against Stroudsburg. Quarterback Jordey Guzman picked up 23 of those yards. Huskies get their second win 17-14.

(4-3) PLEASANT VALLEY BEARS at (6-1) NAZARETH BLUE EAGLES FRIDAY 7PM ANDREW LEH STADIUM

The Bears are struggling to score points last two weeks, scoring seven against Northampton last week and only six the week before versus Pocono Mtn East. They were limited to minus 25 yards in the second half against the Konkrete Kids. Alex Eck did nt play in the second half due to an injury. The Blue Eagles will be at home their last three games. Peyton Falzone threw for nearly 280 yards last week against Whitehall on 19 of 25 passing and a touchdown he added two fouth quarter scores running the ball. Expect Nazarteh to roll 49-12.

(6-1) NORTHAMPTON KONKRETE KIDS at (5-2) POCONO MTN WEST PANTHERS FRIDAY 7PM

The K-Kids totaled nearly 300 yards last week against Pleasant Valley. Caden Henritzy rushed for nearly 130 yards and quarterback Gavin Tate was an efficient 8 of 10 passing for 91 yards. Northampton is on a six game winning streak and have outscored their opponents by 30 points in those wins. PMW have also been on a hot streak winning their last five games and are in second place in the District XI 5A Power rankings. But back-to-back games with EPC elite next two weeks will tell just how good the Panthers are as they have Central Catholic on the schedule next week. Northampton 42 PMW 17

(3-4) EASTON RED ROVERS at (3-4) FREEDOM PATRIOTS FRIDAY 7PM at BASD STADIUM, BETHLEHEM.

After getting out to a lead last week at home against Emmaus. The Green Hornets scored 35 straight points for the win. The Rovers had a total of 140 yards of offense and just 57 via the ground game. The Patriots are starting to hit their stride as a push for the playoffs has arrived back-to-back shutouts after a 1-4 start. The offense still needs to improve as they only scored less than 20 points last two weeks. Freedom has won seven straight over Easton. Freedom 21 Easton 16

(2-5) LIBERTY HURRICANES at (4-3) EMMAUS GREEN HORNETS FRIDAY &PM EPSD STADIUM

Liberty Hurricanes going in the opposite direction as they dropped their fifth straight decision, but pushed state ranked Central Catholic to the limit, losing 23-20 on a 49 yard last second field goal. Quarterback Caden Vermuelen tosssed for nearly 100 yards on 12 of 17 passing and two touchdowns. RB Adriaan DeLeon rushed for nearly 100 yards and a score. Emmaus has been unbeaten their last three weeks. Josiah Williams threw for almost 180 yards while running for another 60 against Easton last week. RB Jasiyah Banks scored three touchdown on just seven touches. Emmaus 28 Liberty 13.

(5-2) BETHLEHEM CATHOLIC GOLDEN HAWKS at (7-0) PARKLAND TROJANS FRIDAY &PM OREFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL STADIUM

Becahi is in the midst of brutal schedule to end the season, and all on the road: Parkland, Nazareth and Central Catholic. Ty Ward’s team could not finish a few promising drives last week against Freedom. Not to mention a couple of poor punts gave the Patriots great field position. RB Jacob Sutton picked up nearly 100 yards but the passing game struggled gaining just 60 yards on 4 completions. Parkland rolled again last week to stay unbeaten. Trey Tremba topped the 1,000 rushing plateau for the season and Luke Spang has thrown for over 1,00 on the season as well. Exect Parkland to roll on 42-7.

(4-3) STROUDSBURG MOUNTAINEERS at (2-5) EAST STROUDSBURG SOUTH CAVALIERS FRIDAY 7PM

The Mounties got a nice game from Lucas Antal who had almost 125 yards rushing on 26 touches. WR Kevin Palonia picked up 70 yards on two catches and a score against Dieruff last week. This feels like a must-win game for the Cavaliers if they want a spot in the district playoffs Nathan Gray rushed for over 200 yards on just eight carries last week and crossed the goal line four times, one going for 86 yards. Stroudsburg close 14-10

(1-6) POCONO MTN EAST CARDINALS at (0-7) WILLIAM ALLEN CANARIES SATURDAY 1PM J.BIRNEY CRUM STADIUM, ALLENTOWN

The only bright spot for the Cardinals last week was a 85 yard kickoff return by Rasu Wearing-Poindexter. Allen were held to just under 60 yards by a stingy Parkland Trojan defense and turned the ball over for times in that loss. This game could be just like last year’s game very close 20-18 PME win.

(4-3) WHITEHALL ZEPHYRS at (5-2) ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHLOLIC VIKINGS SATURDAY 7PM J. BIRNEY CRUM STADIUM.

Whitehall’s defense gave up over 400 yards last week to Nazareth, but were in the game until the fourth quarter. Andrew Deutsch connected on 3 field goals against the Blue Eagles and a touchdown pass from QB Trey Dogmanits to Braden Bayshore accounted for Zephyr points. Central Catholic’s K Luke Myers also hit three field goals last week versus liberty including a 49 yarder to win the game at the horn 23-20. QB Antonio Fontanez threw for nearly 250 yards on 19-25 bpassing. This game could go down to the wire as well and with both teams having decent kickers could decide the game ACC 24-21.
