Coming To The Top Of The Stretch, Still Plenty To Decide In The EPC Heading Into Week Eight.

Well Hollywood was stricken with Vertigo early in the week and was unsure of coming up with an article in time for this crucial week of high school football. Thanks to the staff at Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital for taking such care and a diagnosis to allow Hollywood to be discharged in time to post this and to be back on the sidelines Friday night.

Some very good games this past week and some not so much, so let’s jump right into this week’s contests and predictions Last week I was perfect 9-0 for second straight week bring my season record to 51-12 .809.

7-0 NORTHAMPTON KONKRETE KIDS at 1-6 POCONO MOUNTAIN EAST FRIDAY 7PM.

Last week Northampton shutdown Pleasant Valley and their triple-option offense 46-7. Pocono Mountain East found themselves losing to win-less Louis Dieruff 41-0. The K-Kids keep rolling towards an EPC North Championship and a preferred seeding in the upcoming District XI 6A Playoffs. Northampton led by QB Antonio Russo who is 50 of 72 passing for 727 yards 8 touchdowns and 2 picks. RB Caden Henritzy is averaging 6.8 yards per carry and a North Division leading 13 touchdowns. Jaelin Richardson is the K-Kids leading receiver averaging 17 yards per reception and 4 touchdowns. The Cardinals are led by running backs DJ Kelly with 400 yards and 3 scores while Rasu Wearing-Poindexter has a 4.7 average per carry and 3 touchdowns. Expect Northampton to keep rolling in this first of two tune-up games till they meet Whitehall in week 10. Northampton by 59.

4-3 STROUDSBURG MOUNTAINEERS at 0-8 WILLIAM ALLEN CANARIES FRIDAY AT J. BIRNEY CRUM STADIUM.

Stroudsburg defeated East Stroudsburg North 41-10. Allen lost a 42-6 decision to Pocono Mountain West. Andre Reams rushed for 143 yards fot the Mounties. Aiden Harman threw for 45 yards on 6 of 9 passing. THe canaries have lost nine straight times against Stroudsburg including a 49-8 loss last year. Three turnovers against West doomed Allen. Stoudsburg will probably need to win two of their remaining three games to make the post-season. Mounties by 42 at least.

1-6 LOUIS DIERUFF HUSKIES at 1-6 EAST STROUDSBURG NORTH TIMBERWOLVES FRIDAY 7PM

Dieruff picked up it’s initial win on the season by defeating Pocono Mountain East 40-10. The Timberwolves dropped a 41-0 decision to Stroudsburg. Mekhi Ashby had 108 yards running the ball and Noah Ozorio caught 4 passes for 110 yards from QB Jordey Guzman, who completed 9 of 13 passes for 188 yards. Dieruff defeated North 47-16 last year and has won eight in a row in the series. The Wolves were shutout for third time this season and have gone two games without puting points up on the scoreboard. The Timberwolves may score on the Huskies but won’t be enough, Dieruff gets it’s second win by 30.

3-4 POCONO MOUNTAIN WEST PANTHERS at 4-3 EAST STOUDSBURG SOUTH FRIDAY 7PM.

PMW took down Allen 42-6. ESS lost to Parkland 57-8. Both teams need a win to keep up any hope of making the District XI 5A playoffs. The Cavaliers have lost to Northampton, Liberty and Parkland. They will need to win one of their next two opponents. Cavaliers in a close one by 1 over PMW.

2-5 EASTON RED ROVERS at 2-5 BETHLEHEM LIBERTY HURRICANES at BASD STADIUM FRIDAY 7PM

Easton was on the short end of a 28-14 loss to Bethlehem Catholic. Liberty was shutout by Emmaus 49-0.
Not even Aiden Hutchinson’s return to the Rovers lineup could not overcome the Golden Hawks and dominating the statistics by outgaining Becahi 391-184 wasn’t enough. The Hurricanes were held to 161 yards by the Hornets with Karim Brice and Marcus Askerneese combined for 75 yards.
This is the 107th meeting between the two schools with Easton having the edge 65-38-3.Look for the Rovers to get win 66 by 8 over the Hurricanes

4-3 ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC VIKINGS at 4-3 WHITEHALL ZEPHYRS FRIDAY 7PM.

The Vikings coming off a disappointing 42-14 loss to Nazareth. Whitehall lost to Freedom 33-14.

Central Catholic coming off that heart-breaking performance in the second half last week to the Blue Eagles after going into the locker room tied at 14, giving up 28 points after half. Caiden Shaffer did pick up 153 yards for the Vikings. While the Zephyrs were led by Nigel Linton gaining 146 yards against the Patriots. Zephs will probably need one more win down the stretch to gain a 5A playoff spot. Whoever’s back does better will determine a wiiner! Hollywood says Vikings by 1.

5-2 BETHLEHEM FREEDOM PATRIOTS at 5-2 PLEASANT VALLEY BEARS FRIDAY 7PM.

Patriots defeated Whitehall 33-14. The Bears lost to Northampton 46-7. Almost a mirror image to last year’s Patriots run to a Distrct XI 6A title. Starting off 2-2 then won nine in a row. Jalen Fletcher had another big game in the win over Whitehall, but Patriots need some more balance from the passing game to make noise in the playoffs. Things don’t get any easier for PV as they face Freedom. The Bears have been outscored in last two games 84-14 by Parkland and Northampton. Expect Freedom to continue their quest for a top seed in the playoffs as they cruise by the Bears by 29.

4-3 PARKLAND TROJANS at 4-3 BETHLEHEM CATHOLIC GOLDEN HAWKS SATURDAY at BASD STADIOUM 7PM.

FOLLOW DAN REED at @PFNDan570FB ON TWITTER FOR ALL THE LIVE UPDATES!!!

Parkland took down East Stroudsburg South 57-8. Becahi defeated Easton 28-14. After the last two weeks thew Trojans got wins against EPC North teams, they get a hungry Golden Hawk team looking to make a late season playoff run. QB Luke DSpang had a TD pass and rushed for another. Trey Tremba found the end zone twice over ESS. Becahi QB Luke Thomas was perfect passing against the Rovers at Cottingham Stadium going 10 for 10 and 120 yards. The Hawks will be underdogs in their last three games. Parkland should get the victory by 14.

7-0 EMMAUS GREEN HORNETS at 6-1 NAZARETH BLUE EAGLES FRIDAY 7PM at ANDREW LEH STADIUM.

Nazareth strong second half propelled a 42-14 win at Allentown Central Catholic. Emmaus shutout Liberty 49-0. This should be “The Game of the year”. Emmaus only giving up 10 ppg Jake Fotta was 10 of 11 for 152 yards versus Liberty. Nazareth defense were on it’s heels last week against the Vikings as ACC had the ball all but the last fifteen seconds of the second quarter. QB Sonny Sasso led his team to a 57 2 play drive to tie the game at 14. Then scored the last 28 points to secure the win. Nazareth’s defensive line will be tested again by a much bigger Emmaus front seven. HOLLYWOOD WILL BE AT THIS CONTEST FOLLOW @BPtashinski on TWITTER. Taking Emmaus by six.
