Previews and Prediction of the Three Contests I will be attending in Week #8

POTTSVILLE at NORTHWESTERN LEHIGH

My take on Friday night’s marquee football contest with the Schuylkill/Colonial League Gold Division title on the line. Pottsville Crimson Tide (6-1) travel to face the (7-0) Northwestern Lehigh Tigers 7pm.
Pottsville’s only blemish was a 42-14 loss to State 3A power Wyomissing on September 3rd. The Crimson Tide is led by quarterback Jazce Carabello-Snowell, who has thrown for 823 yards and 8 scores while rushing for 431 yards and 4 TD’s. Running Back Travontai Davis is averaging 9.0 per carry while gaining 796 yards on the season and has found the end zone 11 times. Pottsville is ranked #9 in the state by PaFootballNews.com in class 4A. Raeff DiCello is the teams’ leading receiver with 18 receptions for 302 yards with 3 touchdowns.
Northwestern has it’s share of offensive stars as well. Dual-threat QB Justin Holmes guides the Tigers with 835 yards passing and rushed for 808 yards and has combined for 25 touchdowns. Cade Christopher is averaging nearly 15 yards per carry and in addition is averaging 20 yards per catch receiving and has scored 11 times. Christopher’s teammate in the backfield is Dalton Clymer who has rushed for 314 yards on 49 carries and 4 TD’s
Amari Dunn anchors the Crimson Tide Tide’s defense with nearly 8 tackles/game, while Blaine Snyder is the leading tackler for the #6th ranked 4A team in the state by PFN.
This game could come down to who has the ball last to decide a winner. Pottsville can spoil two teams perfect season as they close out against North Schuylkill in a couple of weeks.
I am taking Northwestern at home 28-21, but wouldn’t be surprised to see the Tide come out on top.

BANGOR SLATERS at WILSON WARRIORS

Another key high school football contest in the Colonial/Schuylkill League will be played on Saturday afternoon at Warriors Stadium as 5-2 Wilson Area hosts 4-3 Bangor Slaters. Last time these two teams met on 0ctober 16th 2020 Wilson shutout the Slaters 14-0. Wilson is guided by quarterback Cayden Stem, who has thrown for 1,272 yards with 17 touchdowns. Running back Damian Simpson has rushed for 452 yards on on 56 tallies on six scores while Zach Gillen (444 yards 31 catches 3 TD’s) and Damon Simpson (12 receptions 431 yards 6 scores) are the leading receivers.
Bangor has rushed for over 1,900 yards as a team on the season. RB Kael Godshalk has picked up 667 yards on 112 carries and 12 scores while QB Erik Striba has gained 839 yards on 87 rushes and 10 TD’s. Striba has also passed for 544 yards on 47 of 85 and 4TD’s but has 9 interceptions. Gabe Woolverton has 10 catches for 185 yards and 1 touchdown is the Slaters leading receiver.
Bangor has been up and down all season. Winning their opening two games but then dropping 3 of their next 4 before beating Lehighton last week 50-14. Wilson was 5-0 to start the season but since have lost two in a row 42-6 to Northwestern Lehigh and 43-8 to Pottsville.
Wilson has a young offensive line that has not protected Stem in last two games against two of the premier teams in the league. I believe they’ll do better against Bangor and get the win 35-28.

WHITEHALL ZEPHYRS at ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC

Saturday night at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown will be the site of a key EPC South high school football game between the Whitehall Zephyrs(3-3) and (4-3) Allentown Central Catholic Vikings. Last meeting 9/18/20 won by the Vikings 34-13.
Whitehall comes in currently leading the District XI/2 Subregional 5A classification power rankings while ACC is 3rd in the 4A rankings.
The Zephyrs were ranked in the top 10 in the state by pafootballnews.com going by winning their first three games including a 49-14 over Bethlehem Catholic, but since they have fallen on hard times by losing their last 3 games 26-7 to Emmaus, 27-7 to Parkland and 41-12 to Bethlehem Freedom.
Central Catholic started off hot by winning their first 3 games including a 21-0 win over Emmaus to give the Green Hornets their loss. But since are 1-3 with back-to-back losses to Freedom 42-7 and Nazareth 18-0, with the win being a 14-7 win over Parkland, for the Trojans only loss.
Whitehall is led by running backs Nigel Linton(53/412/9) and Damonte Foreman(60/305/4). Quarterback Quinn Wentling is 32 of 49 passing for 441 yards and 2 TD’s, his favorite target is Bryce Bashore with 17 receptions 131 yards. Foreman has 124 yards receiving and Ryan Kovalchic has 106 yards on 6 catches and a touchdown.
Tamlin Ferguson has thrown for 1,045 yards on 86 of 145 passes 3 scores for the Vikings. Travis Foster has gained 350 yards on 116 carries with 4 touchdowns leads the rushing attack. Central Catholic’s leading receiver is Griffen Patridge with 441 yards on 33 catches with 5 trips to the end zone.
Both teams could us a win here to gain some momentum heading into the final weeks of the season as the schedule does not get any easier with Whitehall goes on the road at 5-2 Nazareth and then at home with unbeaten Northampton. Central Catholic has a bit easier path to the playoffs with games with Pocono Mountain East(1-4) then the”Holy War” with (2-4) Bethlehem Catholic.
I think Central Catholic gets it done 28-21.
