Honesdale gets the road victory at Nanticoke

It took Honesdale over an hour to get to Nanticoke. It took 13 seconds for Mason Avery to give the Hornets the lead. Avery returned the opening kickoff 73 yards and added three touchdowns as Honesdale took the 56-7 victory at Nanticoke. “Mason Avery’s been dynamite for us.” Honesdale head coach Paul Russick said. “There was no doubt when he got the ball, he was gonna make something of this.” Russick continued talking about the opening kickoff. Mason Avery on his performance and his team’s effort. “It felt great coming out here as a team, putting up points, and executing on offense and defense.”

On the opening kickoff, Mason Avery returned the kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown to make it 6-0 Honesdale with 11:47 remaining in the first quarter. Turnovers on both sides kept the game 6-0 until halfway through the first quarter. Avery scored from four yards out for his second touchdown of the game to make it 14-0 Hornets with 6:07 remaining in the first.

Honesdale got great field position on their next possession. Gabe Duda scored from 13 yards for a touchdown and made it 20-0 Hornets with 3:17 left in the first quarter. Then Aidan Collins goes to Duda for a 16 yard score to make it 28-0 with 1:24 left in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Avery scored his third touchdown of the game from 11 yards out to make it 35-0 Honesdale with 8:49 remaining in the second quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Chris Julian returned the kick to the Honesdale one yard line. The Hornets prevented a touchdown and then drove down to midfield as Duda scored from 50 yards out to make it 42-0 with 3:12 left in the second quarter.

Mason Avery scored his fourth touchdown of the game from 21 yards out to make it 49-0 with 1:02 left in the second quarter and that was the score at halftime. The Trojans got on the board as Treston Allen found James Bush from 34 yards out to make it 49-7 with 5:33 left in the third quarter. The scoring ended as Abe Bryant found Zachery Measler from 42 yards out to make it 56-7 and that ended up being the final score. Honesdale improved to 4-4 and will travel to Dunmore. Nanticoke is now 1-7 and will travel to Wyoming Area next week.
