The Berlin-Brothersvalley Mountaineers rode a big first half to overcome the Everett Warriors comeback run with a 35-19 victory at Snider of Berlin Sports Complex.

Berlin absolutely dominated the first half, out scoring Everett 35-7. Once the second half hit, everything changed and Everett capitalized on every mistake Berlin made.

Berlin got on the board quickly, following a three and out punt. Corbin Kordell put together a 54 yard return, enough for Carter Durst to punch it in from nine yards out the next play.

Everett responded with a long special teams return of their own as Jakobe Harman took the kickoff inside the Berlin 35. Jonathan Cooper later found Levi Cornell for a 14 yard score to tie the game.

The following drive, Berlin would score again as Brady Janidlo threw up a deep ball to Ryan Janidlo for a 33 yard touchdown.

A few scoreless drives later, Berlin got the ball back and Durst went back again, this time for a 37 yard touchdown.

After another three and out, Durst added another score from 30 yards out, breaking the tackle from a group of Everett defenders.

“I just want to give all the credit to my lineman,” Carter Durst commented. “I only got that because they are there. They get all my credit, I love them more than anything. They are really the whole offense out there.”

Durst finished the night with 136 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also made a handful of big stops on defense too.

“He {Durst} ran like a man tonight,” Berlin Head Coach Dante Paul explained. “Each week I tell the guys that. We have a few guys on offense that can go make plays and tonight it was him in the first half. He got after it and was tough to bring down. He got a lot of yards after contact and carried us through the first half.”

Berlin added their fifth score of the first half off of a 22 yard rush from Marquinn Suber. He later stopped Everett’s drive before halftime with an interception.

Once the second half hit, the entire game shifted. Everett got a big defensive stop and Harman went 78 yards for a touchdown.

A few plays later, they got an interception from Gavin Hall. Cooper found Cooper Hall down field and connected for a 41 yard touchdown to make the score 35-19.

Everett would then force a fumble on the kickoff and got the ball right back. Berlin’s defense held strong, forcing a punt.

Shortly after, Hall got his second interception of the game, giving Everett the ball right back with great field position. A big sack by Durst and Layne Kister prevented Everett from moving down the field.

Everett would later force a fumble later in the fourth quarter and got inside the red zone with minutes to go, but Berlin pulled through with a turnover on downs.

“We scrapped and got after it a little bit,” Everett Head Coach Brian Koontz commented. “We’re a little better than we played in the first half. We just didn’t get it done. We’re 2-1, a big county rival next week. As long as we get everyone back healthy, I think we’ll be okay.”

Four turnovers in the second half was the ultimate aspect holding Berlin back from a potential blowout. Everett capitalized off of them, making it a very interesting ball game.

“It was just two different halves,” Coach Paul stated. “I don’t know if we got too complacent or what. The big thing was turning the football over. We protected it well all season. Everett capitalized on it, hats off to them. A very tough football team and scrappy.”

“Glad to walk away with a win, but we’ve gotta clean a lot of stuff moving forward.”

Berlin-Brothersvalley advances to 3-0 and will host Wilmington next week. Everett drops to 2-1 and will invite Northern Bedford to town.
