A big week four matchup in the east side of the Laurel Highlands as the 3-0 Huntingdon Bearcats travels to Mansion Park to take on the third ranked 2-1 Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders.

It has been a great bounce back season for Huntingdon, coming off a winless 2024 campaign and now they are undefeated through three games. They’ve won with their strong defense, allowing just three touchdowns this season. They haven’t played terrible opponents either in Bald Eagle, Somerset, and Bellwood. Solid wins, but nothing comparable to what they have ahead of them in Bishop Guilfoyle.

“BG is always a disciplined, physical football team,” Huntingdon Head Coach Tim Lucko explained. “Even in their games against Richland and Bellefonte, you can see the effort, toughness, and coaching they bring every week. For us, it’s about executing our game plan, staying disciplined on first down, and taking advantage of opportunities when they present themselves. They don’t beat themselves, so we have to be sharp in all three phases to give ourselves a chance.”

Bishop Guilfoyle has struggled recently, falling to a ranked Richland squad and sneaking past Bellefonte in a 7-0 victory. Despite their lack of dominance like last season, they still have a great team to work with that is one of the best in 1A. Jake Kissell leads this group and if Huntingdon wants any chance of winning, they’ve got to contain him. Through three games, Kissell has accounted for 359 rushing yards and 111 receiving.

“That is a tall task he is such a physical presence on the field on both sides of the ball,” Coach Lucko described on how to stop him.  We will need to get guys to the football and tackle well.”

The Marauders need to do better offensively as well, especially following their game against Bellefonte. Huntingdon has had a strong defense, making it more of a challenge for Bishop Guilfoyle to catch a groove.

“We need to finish drives,” Bishop Guilfoyle Head Coach Justin Wheeler said. “We moved the ball well at times, but didn’t finish and get points when we had opportunities. We also need to continue to be a balanced on offense. Our run game has been good and our pass game is improving, but needs to be even better.”

While offense needs to be better, Bishop Guilfoyle knows that they need to control the line of scrimmage against Huntingdon to have success. Both teams with very big lines, so the winner in the trenches should dictate this game.  Huntington’s offense has been slightly worse than Bishop Guilfyole’s, but the Marauders know what they need to do to stop them.

“Our defense needs to be able to stop the run,” Coach Wheeler stated. “They have a big offensive line with big physical backs and they’ve been able to consistently move the ball on teams. Our DBs need to remain focused and not give up the big pass play.”

It’ll be a very competitive contest at Mansion Park at 7 PM. Can Huntingdon stay undefeated? Will Bishop Guilfoyle get their offense moving? Big questions that should be answered this evening and will be big explanations for the remaining outlook on the season.
