Not very often do we see trilogy matchups occur outside the confines of the combat sports arena. But see one unfold we did, in the birthplace of the zipper. The first time these two teams crossed paths was two years ago this coming Sunday. When the Indians lost a heart-breaker 34-27.

“A lot of the kids that made that trip two seasons ago were on this team tonight,” said Head Football Coach Kurt Condo when asked about the significance of this win. “ The most crucial part was that we came out and had an excellent team win.” And when asked what his mentality was heading into the weekend he had this to say, ” We’ll enjoy the ride home, but we need to remain focused. Selinsgrove isn’t going to be easy.”

The first quarter came and went without a hitch, with both teams trying to establish a feel for the other on the ground and through the air. The first score of the contest wouldn’t come until midway through the second quarter of play, when Meadville QB Jacoby Johnson was brought down by senior defensive end Nate Tyson for a safety, making it 2-0 at the 9:37 mark. Following the free kick, the Indians were able to work it down to about the Meadville 18 before Brighton Anderson stepped in front of a Wyatt Ehrenzeller swing pass and took it 82 yards to the house.( Pat good 7-2 Meadville 7:25) Juniata wouldn’t go to the half without a fight, as Wyatt Ehrenzeller was able to hook up with Connor Boreman for a 47yd score a couple minutes later, (Pat good) sending us to the half with a 9-7 Juniata lead.

Meadville’s 1st drive of the second half was the only one they could muster without committing a turnover that half.  Wyatt Ehrenzeller drove his team down the field as quarter number three ticked away,  making the plunge from a yard out with 8 seconds remaining in the quarter.(the ensuing PAT was blocked). The Indians would coast from there, forcing consecutive 4 & outs, before they would notch yet another score with 6:17 to go in the 4th(Pat Blocked.)  That score would hold, and the Indians would emerge 21-7.

The Indians are now making their first trip to the PIAA Elite 8 and their opponent will be Selinsgrove.
