Jake Kissell Runs Over Huntingdon in #3 Bishop Guilfoyle’s Dominant Victory

The #3 Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders rode a strong night from Jake Kissell to knock off the undefeated Huntingdon Bearcats in 38-14 fashion at Mansion Park.

Kissell accounted for 158 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. He also added two sacks on defense. His play propelled the Marauders to the victory and a 3-1 record.

“He is a division one athlete on a Friday night, everyone that comes here and leaves they say, man that kids a player,” Bishop Guilfoyle Head Coach Justin Wheeler stated. “He makes plays when other guys can’t. It’s fun to watch a kid like that when he’s clicking.”

Bishop Guilfoyle put together a solid first half, walking to the locker room up 20-7. Huntingdon was very well in this ball game, despite being down 13 and the Marauders getting the ball back at halftime. They were a holding call away from a tie ball game.

After punting on the first drive, Huntingdon got great field position on a fumble recovery by AJ Rivello. That set up a pass from Reese Hughes to Javaughn Dodson from 26 yards out to give the Bearcats an early lead.

Bishop Guilfoyle later responded with a 44 yard touchdown rush from Jake Kissell to tie the ballgame up.

Huntingdon shot themselves in the foot with a bad snap that sent them back 27 yards. The Marauders got a decent return on the punt and quickly got back in the endzone. Justin Wheeler gave them the lead on a seven yard rush.

The Bearcats started to drive again, but another bad snap lost them 15 yards. Huntingdon followed with a stop on defense and started to drive down the field again. They nearly got into the red zone on a run by Hughes, but a holding call sent them back and forced them to punt. That seemed to lose all of their momentum on the night.

“It did at that point,” Huntingdon Head Coach Tim Lucko replied on the impact the holding call made. “That turned into a touchdown so that’s not always good. It was like we’d get something positive and then it’s a bad snap or missed block. You’ve got to execute perfectly against great football teams like this.“

Bishop Guilfoyle would capitalize on that missed opportunity by the Bearcats and drive down the field again. Wheeler ran for a big 34 yard gain and connected for a few passes before Kissell ran it in from eight yards out for his second score of the game.

Following halftime, the Marauders wasted no time at all and drove down the field. Tyson Lestochi took a net toss 30 yards and then Kissell finished the drive with a one yard touchdown.

Huntingdon showed some life as Landon Erdman stripped the ball out of Wheeler’s hands and Evan Edmiston picked up and took it back for a touchdown, cutting the score to 28-14.

Bishop Guilfoyle immediately added another score, this time from 38 yards out from the leg of Carter Boland. The kicker drilled a long field goal, in addition to his perfect night of extra points.

Kissell would put the game away to begin the fourth quarter with his fourth score of the night from 68 yards out.

He has really taken the ropes of this Marauder offense and that has been without their star RB Taurean Consiglio who suffered a torn tricep against Richland.

“Taurean is my best friend and seeing him go down against Richland was one of the toughest things I’ve experienced in my football career,” Jake Kissel explained. “There’s a lot of pressure on everyone. We want to do it for him because we know he’d do anything to be the field with us. At the end of the day, I’ve got guys around me. My runs tonight would not have happened without the offensive line. Everyone’s gonna keep getting better and we keep thinking of how we’re gonna win another state championship for him.”

Bishop Guilfoyle (3-1) heads to Central next week. Huntingdon (3-1) travels to Clearfield.
