Football has been played at Titusville since the 1800s when the namesake of college football’s most prestigious trophy, John Heisman, played for the Rockets.

On Friday night, Jaxon Covell broke Jeremy Snyder’s career rushing record of 2873 yards, which was set in the late 90s.

“Becoming the all-time leading rusher in Titusville is a huge achievement and humbling experience just thinking about all the hard work being paid off,” Covell said. “All my linemen and offensive backs are a huge part of our success and are always striving for more. Being labeled the all-time leading rusher means a lot and will be talked about with my friends and me for a long time.”

Covell entered Friday night needing only 66 yards to break the mark. He broke the record late in the first quarter.

“Breaking the record was expected during week four against CASH. We didn’t let that get to the best of us, so we took a second to soak it in, then got right back to playing great football,” said Covell.

He will almost certainly surpass 3000 yards for his career when Titusville hosts Warren on Friday night; as of now, Covell has 2994 career rushing yards. The Rockets will look for their fourth straight victory and are almost guaranteed to obtain the program’s first winning season since 2016.

“For the team’s success, we focus on our fundamentals to become the best we can. Hard work in the off-season and every practice is the key to the success we run, “said Covell. Also, having a great game plan laid out in front of us by the coaches keeps us focused on our best gameplay.”

He has now rushed for 798 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns on the season. He also leads the Rockets with ten receptions from 217 yards and three scores.

“My team is always striving to be the best we can. We fully believe that we are capable of taking our team on a ride into the playoffs,” he concluded.
